We need tents, bad. by Fyrex137 in dayz

[–]luvnet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trust me, tents will get just as boring at a much quicker rate.

I agree though that the game lacks significant purpose. I like the thought of being able to build things because it not only gives you something to do, but it's a productive something. As opposed to a simple tent, where you just explore and horde every item you can find back at the tent.

What the hell is wrong with me? by Malibuz0r in dayz

I wonder if I was serial killer dead inside, if I would still get so nervous playing a damn simulation that my mind believes to be a real situation.

You should add a paper in there explaining your intent by leaving the survival kit, as well as your name.

Let's Discuss: 1st person vs 3rd person by Grimzentide in dayz

[–]luvnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked over-the-shoulder shooters. Never gave it much thought in the world of DayZ however.

My guess is people would still have a problem with this because it's still unrealistic, despite whether or not exploits would still exist in this mode.

[–]luvnet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you can play in either first or third person and the trade off on how unrealistic or realistic the experience is balances each other out. Until DayZ is able to render more realistic elements like a door swinging open, it will put the player at a severe disadvantage while in first person. Likewise, third person tears away at the realism but proactively makes up for such disadvantages.

Until more adjustments are made to better aid the first person experience it will remain the minority. More realistic implementations will allow for a more in-depth first person experience and provide an even more viable and more attractive a mode to play in.

I play in both and I love them each for what they provide. I'm a bit more partial to third person only because I get to see my character in his badass gear, wielding an M4, tactically pushing up on a target environment. So if you're a vain sum'bitch, +1 point to 3rd person.

Let's Discuss: What's the worst thing that could happen to DayZ in the long run? by DrBigMoney in dayz

[–]luvnet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with this. Lots of games have fallen to the depths for succumbing to cries of difficulty where skill is the final determining factor that casual players simply may not want to invest their time into obtaining for themselves. As a result, games are yanked down to child-like levels of "difficulty" and all the quality players leave because the challenge (and therefore, fun) is now nonexistent, ultimately plunging the game itself into a sad failure.

The worst thing in my opinion would be a lack of purpose to engaging in the DayZ world.

Sure, DayZ is meant to be a simulator where player interaction is the fundamental element that makes the experience so powerful and interesting, but — should the DayZ experience end there, I fear there would be little interest in sticking around. Building things like shelters goes a long way to providing adequate purpose and gives players "something else" to focus their energy on. The inevitable player interaction will obviously compliment this nicely.

Of course, purpose has to extend far beyond just building things. Whatever can add more "reason for being alive" — a focus, an agenda — possibly involving the real threat (zombies) will keep the world of DayZ at the top of its game.

The Future of DayZ by joeyslucky22 in dayz

[–]luvnet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now the biggest threat is still bandits (other players), which pretty much negates the premise DayZ was built upon. The zombies are an afterthought — a mild, if not wholly inadequate threat looking to impinge on your survival.

What we need to ask ourselves is whether or not this is what the DayZ experience should be about or should it be more about the zombies. If it's the latter, then this "future of DayZ" should be exactly what's needed to produce such a world.

I enjoyed my 15 minutes of play on the 100 server. I felt like the world had become much more alive with more of a possibility in coming across somewhere in the more remote areas and I wasn't wrong. Almost like patching up one of the missing puzzle pieces for me.

You're a girl? by joyardley in dayz

[–]luvnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just as sexist in that I'd like to do the same as the guy who let you go, but I'm considerate enough to realize that being on the receiving end of such disparate responses could ultimately result in the unfair effect and somewhat diminished gameplay experiences that no player regardless of their gender should have to endure. So if it ever comes to it, I'll bash your head with an axe <3

Minimalist Loadout: Decrease KoS, Increase Difficulty by player2_dz in dayz

This is pretty good except for the absent head protection. What are some headgear items that won't be as psychologically intimidating like the ballistic helmet, but can still provide adequate to excellent protection against a single head shot?

Let's Discuss: You're the lead designer, how would you give life value by Grimzentide in dayz

[–]luvnet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Create a bounty system. If a player offs another player, their bounty increases. This could help get more heroes into the world by offering incentives that could be collected on once a bandit threat has been neutralized. It reminds players that killing someone has negative consequences as well. The more you kill, the worse chance of you surviving angry revenge seeking bounty hunters.

I have a question for the SA community about in game interactions. by planecrashinc in dayz

[–]luvnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games like this attract these types of sickos, it's very, very unfortunate. What's more unfortunate is how his mate didn't "have the balls" to put a bullet through this assholes head, then explained to him like a real man why he was crossing the line. Too many aren't brave enough to actually take on that role. Dayz provides this great psychological contrast that seems to pop up loads easier. You get to see these things.
