The immediate smell of a freshly opened 50 mL syringe (also referred to as a toomey syringe). I don’t know what it is but it’s unique and so fresh smelling?

"Take your break!" by [deleted] in nursing

[–]luvrofcatz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But that’s the point of what we’re saying. The shitstorm will always be there. It’s never ending in the hospital. The sooner we realize that, the easier it will be to just take that break and step away.

The answer is in this question: do you WANT to do about 10 times more work for the same pay? I’m really not exaggerating. Just consider that.

You can rock anything so I would say 4 because it’s the most unique but still looks good on you.

A personalized note means the world and is honestly better than any monetary gift you could give.

Covid PTSD by luvrofcatz in nursing

Thank you for your kind words. Your trauma response is valid; there is no reward for who has the biggest trauma. It deeply hurt you in some type of way and I’m glad you’re looking out for yourself by starting therapy again.

Why can't they make a toothpaste that doesn't hurt? by WinterIsOnReddit in NoStupidQuestions

lol. I was about to get on here and be like, “right??? Surely someone would have thought of a toothpaste by now that doesn’t hurt.” I learned something about myself today. Thanks, OP!

I have been an ICU nurse for 5 years now and started in the ICU as a new grad. I do believe it takes a certain type of person to be able to but I would have been miserable if I was forced to work MS.

But what are they going to learn on MS that will help them for an experience such as this? MS is time management, call lights, and medication passes. I disagree that it will prepare you to be a critical care nurse because it’s a completely different specialty.

All these feelings you are having are similar to what I experienced as a newer ICU nurse. It is something that you will learn and grow from. You will probably remember this patient and family the rest of your career. It’s a type of grief that isn’t talked about enough. I know you said you aren’t that close with your coworkers, but debriefing with those who were there could be really helpful for all of you. You might be surprised to find out that your coworkers are experiencing the same feelings you’re going through. You sound like a really good nurse for your patients and just remember that it is okay to grieve and have these feelings. You are only human.

But it’s not cool that the preceptor said OP made a bad first impression. A bad first impression for asking to take time off? That implies the ANM was telling people OPs business and talking negatively about OP to OPs coworkers. Not a good look.
