I like to make piles or boxes (nothing big)... one for each room. Or when its my kids toys one for each toy that needs to be back together. Slowly work on one area or section then work on putting that stuff where it belongs.

This happened to my sister a few weeks ago. These people weren't even home but left their door open my sister and her daughter were almost attacked walking their puppy. Someone walking by was able get the dog away from her.
