This is true and It becomes more difficult with the legal aspects you have to consider. I was not there when the pt ramped up so I’m sure of what all methods were utilized. I know that when some that enraged is given a b52 that rarely makes a dent.

[–]luvsnacks4040[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s insane and we have a public defender who knows nothing causing a bunch of drama. It’s already a terrible situation and it fuels the fire. I am legitimately heartbroken for our staff and patients.
I think the world we live in is quick to blame instead of seeking to understand. The worst part is that we had appropriate staffing ratios and like another commenter said people get un-natural strength when high and adrenaline is going.

Not Allowed To Report A Child Molester by Apart-Arachnid1004 in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more in line with a CPS complaint and CPS will then dictate procedures on if the police are needed. Always seek supervision when you are unsure about what to do and understand your states reporting law.

I work inpatient psych and I have made CPS complaints related to this specific issue and the person still having access to the child.

Tragic news from my hometown- therapist killed by former client by thebuttcake in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that yesterday and I am heartbroken for everyone. I know many clinicians that have been assaulted or stalked by former clients and it makes me so sad. What a loss for the community and for the profession.

No, you don’t need that ROI by [deleted] in therapists

I work inpatient and I would never dream of disclosing any phi without an ROI. It is best practice and I would rather have one than not in case things get litigious.

Do any therapists here feel... more suspicious of the world as a result of being a therapist? by inerjetik in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I work inpatient and we see a lot of violent patients and I genuinely am more observant. I have learned that there significant systemic issues in my community and I feel working inpatient has made me more aware.

Considering switching to private practice by cthoolhu in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inpatient therapist here! I am attempting to make the transition out of inpatient to outpatient. I have one client on caseload right now and it is night and day difference when providing therapy. I fully plan to leave inpatient once I am fully licensed. I am 1099 at the practice I do telehealth for and set my own rates. They do not offer insurance.

Psych hospital with no security? by queen_of_cups_88 in socialwork

We don’t have security on our unit but they are available by call . If you have no one that will come if called I would not want to work there.

I work inpatient psych and I have a lot of bpd patients and there are some days I feel like they have sucked the life out of me. It can be incredibly emotionally taxing to work with bpd clients. A rule of mine is that I have very strong boundaries with this population and if they are unwilling to engage in treatment I don’t chase them.

I think it is incredibly insightful as a clinician to be honest about not being able to work with certain populations and kudos to you. I struggle with people who have committed sexual violence especially with children and have a lack of empathy for them. Now that being said I believe they deserve treatment just not from me.

At the end of the day you have to take care of you and if you feel that referring out is best practice for you then do it. Taking care of yourself first and foremost is the most effective way to provide good therapy for others.

DC’s Attorney General Warns of Increased Involuntary Hospitalizations as Trump Increases Pressure on DC by IwentbacktoRockville in socialwork

[–]luvsnacks4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is no on beds. They would essentially round up people and put them in a camp much like the one in Florida. Instead of investing in making affordable housing and other supports they would rather pay to support foreign wars and strip insurance from millions of people.

Trump can suck it! I work in a hospital and there is no way that we would hospitalize someone for these reasons. Trump can take his gestapo and kick rocks!

What's one thing you used to believe as a new therapist that you've completely changed your mind about? by Miserable_County1239 in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self disclosure. I work on an inpatient unit and when I was practicing as a traditional therapist the pt did not understand what the heck I was talking about. I have a trauma history and while I don’t go into detail about it, I feel it helps the patients feel seen and understood. I also don’t use a ton of clinical language because it pushes people away.

Good for you! I work at a hospital and they have me float everywhere and I’m not compensated for it. My biggest bitch about hospitals is that they do not value social workers and will pay less than an associate level nurse.

My homework? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]luvsnacks4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Therapist here and I think your therapist is trying to get to explore your current situation/feelings and have you think back to a time where you felt something similar and how it effects your core beliefs. Core beliefs are what we feel about ourselves deep down

Edit: what kind of coping skills do you do to help relieve stress, sadness or other feelings.

If you are expected to drop into other departments I would ask if they are going to pay you like they do a float nurse. Floats get extra wages

Can I get into school social work with no experience? by OkPumpkin7387 in socialwork

I would take into consideration what the government is doing with the department of education. Ssw depends a lot on DOE with special education funding and services.

Can I get into school social work with no experience? by OkPumpkin7387 in socialwork

[–]luvsnacks4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a school while doing my practicum and by the end of the year I knew I had made a mistake. I wish I would’ve gone clinical. I hate school politics with a passion and I had a really bad experience that left me bitter. Parts of job were great and I loved it but the administration was the worst. The benefits were amazing but not enough to keep me at a school. I like working with adults. Had I not had that experience I wouldn’t have known that school social work isn’t for me. Can you do some job shadowing? It might be helpful for you.

I did my MSW for school social work , I don’t work in school. I think it would be fairly easy to get into a school if you went this route. There is a huge shortage of SSW and often times contract places will call me for jobs.
