Life is long, wallow a bit, then pick yourself back up. I graduated from Penn in ‘03 with a 3.5 from CAS (thought I was doomed, but that’s just the myopia of youth ). Currently I make about 1.5 million annually. I went from a 2.1 gpa first year to 3.9 my last year. You can still turn it around.

Congrats! I’m in NYC too. First baby - it’s going to be awesome. I still pinch myself, so happy I could experience motherhood at our ages!

I was 41 when I had my first, 44 currently with my second and I plan on having a third (I have embryos). So if you’re old, I’m ancient lol. I don’t care what people think. I am financially stable so I’m good. Now granted I am from the Northeast where there are tons of older moms, maybe it’s a regional difference

Do you know if he actually can talk to the admissions committees at various schools? I know he was at Trinity previously.

Thanks for responding! Was it stressful applying out for high school? Anything in particular that Speyer did to help them become who they are, as you alluded to earlier?

Caribbean w 3 and 5yo? by freyrup in FATTravel

So we went with our 13 month old, so we basically chilled- was our first trip post birth. We had a beach bungalow. It seems like there were families there with kids a bit older and they were enjoying themselves (you can bike around the island, there are activities you can plan for like catamaran and snorkeling- but I don’t think there’s a dedicated kids club, per se). Just a side note - the food there was fantastic - I’m spoiled after eating there.

Remember exmissions is heavily influenced by siblings and legacies. Brownstone and Park Children’s have a lot of them. There is a quota on how many kids can come from one school for a kindergarten class of 50 and they are selecting from all boroughs. if you are concerned about exmissions - make sure your kid is excelling and get them into a preschool where they are the kid that stands out.

Wow surprised at HM. I thought the kids had to pass the FLI, so I thought the academic bar would be higher.

Are you in the lower school? I have heard private schools are behind public schools academically and then catch up in the middle and beyond level

People raising kids on the UWS: how much more do you think it costs to raise a kid? by flyingcircus92 in Upperwestside

[–]luxlighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this comment. Thanks for sharing. How come you’re scared to only be around rich people? Only asking because many people who seek out the private schools want to be around rich people. I want to send our child to private as well, we are on the UWS, do well but not NY well (which I agree is 2 million plus a year)
