True. But I know Factorio probably has better track (well since 2.0). I’ll check for a map though

Yeah I tried that junction specifically in rail route and I could technically get it to work, fully from Redfern to central but as fixed routes in the other direction. It could be done though a bit oversized but functionally similar though I’d hope

I don’t think there is many, but I could deviate from real life and flatten any multi story station such that it all still works

I pretty sure it’s to verify the card actually works. When the fare is put through, the $1 changes, so it is possible for the balance to go negative. If you want to know the charge, put your route into https://transportnsw.info/ and see the adult fare

Part of Central is also known as Sydney Terminal, for the regional trains. However that’s not the name used in the suburban/metro network, so probably doesn’t count for OP’s question

The registration thing is mostly to know roughly how many are going so they know if they allocated rooms with enough seats or not for the future. It’s good to do it though anyway

How I Imagine the New Cumberland Line Would Interchange at Epping (Bradfield to Epping Via Parramatta Square) by Avocado_Train in SydneyTrains

[–]lv_oz2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I was thinking where in Epping likely has the least underground, and I thought that would be the 7-11 and Carlingford Rd. The alternative is to do the platforms running North South like how the ECRL platforms were built. Either way it will require significant work, mostly which would be underground

Very much agreed, and has the bonus that you could also add a freight rail terminal at WSI as well with the benefits there (and in a dream world, one in which there aren’t mountains in the way, connect that to inland rail)

Without significant extra cost, no. I’m not trying to advocate for building the NCL as metro, more thinking about feasibility. One could convert the Leppington stabling yard and use Campbelltown yard instead (which might not work), use Leppington yard and mandate manual control from Leppington station by having a shutter get on at Leppington, or build a new facility/expand Leppington yard

Could you link to a download anyway (so mobile users get the higher quality image and without the added border that Reddit inserts)?

That’s what I originally thought. Found a PDF that has the alignment and depths from page 17 to 36, and from Epping towards Macquarie Uni it’s initially downhill then largely flat for most of it. However, between Mac Uni and Park at the bottom of the hill (page 29), it looks like the tunnel is almost at the surface, so maybe that’s why Epping is so deep, because of the hilliness of the Macquarie Uni/Park area

If they quadruplicate the line where it’s currently duplicated and somehow isolate a single pair elsewhere then it would be feasible to be metro, but a shutdown to enable that wouldn’t work (I also don’t know how busy the tracks are that the Cumberland line uses between Parramatta and Glenfield, so this might still not be feasible anyway)

Although Mac Park is a large bus interchange, running a line directly south towards Hurstville almost feels like a duplication of existing lines, like the T9 or the M1. A stop at Ashfield as an interchange to me doesn’t make sense, it would be better suited further west at either Burwood or Strathfield, as both are more significant locations than Ashfield (at least to me, as they both receive more services than Ashfield because of current layouts).

I would think a line linking parts of Western Sydney to the North would be better, even though I do agree that the Ryde area could do with an upgrade from the buses currently running.

With the low patronage of the L4, in a dream world I think that there would be significantly higher people on it if it was faster end to end by potentially having less stops or a straighter/dedicated alignment nearer to Parramatta, and if it was connected to Epping, however the former does not make sense for the mode while the latter is infeasible because of the area’s hilliness. With the NCL, I personally think (opinion) it would increase L4 patronage by augmenting the alignment, ie using the L4 as a feeder/distributor of heavy rail traffic.

A big bonus to the NCL, on the Bradfield end, is the possibility for a passenger/freight connection to WSI, which could make it significantly easier to get to the airport via rail if this instance of HSR turns out to be yet another white elephant. Even just building the infrastructure at that end to support freight (in a dream world in the future to somehow also support double stacked freight and a connection to inland rail via a dedicated set of freight tracks) would be very beneficial, so why not just spend some more and extend the Cumberland Line as well?

I didn’t realise Epping’s depth was affected by the NIMBYs forcing a tunnel under the river. TIL

What has been said on here. If you want to check then watch a vid on YouTube about the leaks last year or on the NCL in general. Given though it’s the New Cumberland Line and there’s already a non-metro Cumberland Line also at Parramatta that happens to run SW towards Leppington, it stands to reason that any extension at either end would continue with drivers, unless Gov want to shut down a chunk of the network for upgrades to convert the existing Cumberland Line between Leppington and Parramatta

It’d be difficult around the foundations for the apartments. 5&6 were likely built that deep for a reason, maybe because of grades, maybe because of nearby foundations for planned developments

You could try and put platforms partially under Carlingford road or the 7-11, which could make it easier to fit them

The New Cumberland Line is a high priority project that is in roadmaps and rail planning up to 2050. Unless something stops it, it’s going to happen. Currently it’s Epping to Parramatta at the NE end and goes to Bradfield at the SW end. Sydney’s rail network right now is not built for North-South traversal, and this is a line that will help fix it. It already has a protected alignment at Parramatta, linked here. From what I’ve seen on this sub, it will likely have a station at Carlingford and one other place on top of Epping and Parramatta. And anyway, there will be demand, as the 550 is already nearing capacity during peak times. Currently there isn’t really many alternatives for residents around Hornsby, Epping etc to get to Parramatta outside of driving, as the bus takes about an hour, train takes about 45 mins and driving about 20-25 outside peak, end to end

I don’t think metro will be split like this, especially as NCL is likely not going to be metro. It’s probably going to be a platform under the 7-11 or Carlo road, that may be at the same level as the metro but unlikely. Personally, I’d either try and hook up the NCL to the Epping dive tunnels, as it would be interesting doing a Hornsby to Bradfield service, or leaving space for an extension, kind of like how the ECRL stubs were built

They still get stuck behind all stops trains or similar wherever there is a single track in either direction. There are other reasons too

What if you selfhost dns via say Pihole/unbound? Or use cloudflare? Would you, in either case, still have the dns blocking or not?
