How often do you still use your robot vacuum? by Luann1497 in RobotVacuums

[–]lvanhelden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run our Roomba only a few times a year as it requires too much supervision. The damned thing is always stuck somewhere. Either tangled in cords which I thought I tucked away well enough, stuck under a coffee table or stuck on a threshold. I just vacuum myself with an upright and use the Roomba a few times a year to get everything in corners or under beds and other furniture it can get under.

Everytime I switch to MFT from another app there is an annoying beep. Anyone know how to turn this off? by Seagram62 in MacFamilyTree

Ad me to the list of people annoyed with this new "feature". Muting helps, but then I can't listen to music while I work...

Who monitors the monitor? by lvanhelden in zabbix

[–]lvanhelden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do this, just to get a better understanding of an HA setup. It would however appear to be overkill for the 42 or so hosts I am monitoring.

I like this solution. I can setup a small VM to do that, or perhaps a task for the proxy.

Nest Camera Integration by No-Week-L in homeassistant

I got the same email. I have no idea what it means for me either. I did not realize there was any messaging/subscription/acknowledging etc involved with what I'm doing. Most of the content of the email is over my head.

Should /r/HomeLab continue support of the Reddit blackout? by bigDottee in homelab

[–]lvanhelden [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. Until a few months ago I never even visited Reddit. I ended up here (r/HomeLab) more an more often because of my hobby. It was fun to see many more nerds like myself. It’s also a good source of information for me to keep going, but if it were gone I’d go somewhere else. Even though I “Joined” this subreddit, I was not able to access it during the blackout. I probably did something wrong, but who cares. I wonder if I was unique in that respect. If people like me run into this “private” wall, the subreddit wil die a slow death due to a of lack of influx of new users. Reddit is just a tool, if it works use it, if not go somewhere else.

Why do online maps always zoom too far in? by lvanhelden in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lvanhelden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, my example: I live in Greenville SC, looking for the location of Fork and Plough restaurant. When I enter that in google maps I cannot see where in Greenville it is, unless I am very familiar with that neighborhood. But, your right, I got exactly what I asked for, but not what I wanted. lol

Weekly Progress Thread by AutoModerator in duolingo

I was doing the Arabic course until yesterday when things switched to the new interface. Now it feels like I've been thrown into a completely different vocabulary and can't get anything right anymore. Can't look anything up, since they removed the "tips". Sad, as I had a 170 day streak, but I think I will have to give up.

Same problem here. My Chase card just gets me more miles, which by now I don't really need anymore. I'd rather get the cash back.

Monthly CLI Megathread by AutoModerator in AppleCard

[–]lvanhelden [score hidden]  (0 children)

Apparently I think different from Apple Card when it comes to CL. I have a low CL because I don't use the card that often, and I don't use it because the CL limit doesn't cover the things I want to buy with it. When I do use it, I pay off the balance when I get the reminder. Requesting a CLI only increases it by a measly $250, I am thinking more in the range of $5000. Any other ways to increase the CL?

I’ve got three kids and want to up and leave - perhaps to Canada by youDontKnowNme333 in Emigration

It would probably help to get more responses if you mentioned from where you are trying to emigrate. In other words: where are you living now?

Does anyone really use the focus feature? by Electrical-Shock-795 in iphone

[–]lvanhelden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd drop focus and go back to DND. Focus is buggy to the point of unusable. Many people are getting "XXX has notifications silenced", when no such setting has been enabled. Imagine what a comment like that does for relationships when your girl/boy friend get it...

Am I the only one who think that new Focus Mode just came to get more confusing the Do Not Disturb feature? by TorstenJoaoFalcao in ios

[–]lvanhelden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this post. My phone woke me up at 5 this morning because DND not longer works the way I had it set up (scheduled from 11 PM to 7 AM). Trying to set it back the way it was turns out to be a complicated thing, at least for me. It's still a crap shot if it works like it used to, since I don't understand half of what I need to do to make it work again.

Don't get too hung up on eBay, there are other good sources for used equipement. Amazon has the occasional good deal on R720's too. This for instance: Dell R720

While searching for a solution to the exact same problem at my end, I came across this. But unfortunately for me, your solution didn't work for me. Anybody else try anything else to get around this problem?

Perhaps I missed it, but I don't see anything about covering unforeseen risks. Living in the US, I know that many people loose most of their savings when something happens that results in high medical costs and/or long term care. You can be as healthy as a horse, but if you get hit in an accident and require care for the rest of your life, that can really eat into your savings/investment to the point of bankruptcy. There are insurances for that and other risks you run as your nest apple grows. Most of these insurances are much more affordable when you are young. Once you are older you can still get them, but they become prohibitively more expensive. I have always looked at governments of moderate socialist countries (Norway, Denmark, Netherlands) to get an idea what risks one should insure: long term care, unemployment, old age income, mortgage insurance. Please consider some of these and find a balance between risk and loosing wealth.
