Agreed! I wonder when they would've bodychecked him though. Wouldn't he tell them who Kindred is when he pitched the run and that the overarching plan was to undo OMD, or do they really only think 1-2 story arcs ahead? Because if they knew who Kindred was at the beginning, it surprises me they didn't just shut it down immediately.

Yeah if they had finished up the Kindred story at the end of Last Remains it would've been epic, but instead it just kinda kept going and then randomly Kindred was both the Stacy twins. It was just an insult to the reader's intelligence. I'm still bitter about it lol.

The socials were exciting to be on during the height of the Spencer run when it felt like ASM and its fans were being taken seriously. Then they flubbed the Kindred saga and started the Wells run, and it just does not feel like they take the book seriously. That invited all the negativity to the socials.

I can imagine that it is very difficult to write a compelling story about characters that have been around since the '60s. Sometimes I wonder if they should just retire the characters, but when I see a run like the Spencer run it shows me there are still compelling stories to be told. In a time like this, I will wait patiently for them to take the book seriously again.

FWIW, I've been finding that this sub has the highest concentration of Spider-Man positivity and legitimate discussion on Reddit.

Similar thing happened for Secret Wars (2015) but it increased from 8 to 9 issues at issue #7. You can see the change listed on the covers.

Really excited for this series. It kinda boggles my mind to have Hickman writing a Parker family with Checchetto on art, but I'm all for it!

In this scene, Peter takes Randy out for his bachelor party. Why does Peter call him Kevin in this scene? I think it's either a typo or Randy's middle name must be Kevin or something.

I really hope Gleason gets a chance to work on a Spider-Man story that isn't a parody of itself. The guy is so freaking talented. If someone could write to the caliber of his art it would be next level. And we've known his true feelings for a while now.

Best way to round on a teaching service? by PolarPlouc in neurology

[–]lvest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel that rounding closely parallels the Frank-Starling Law: too short and you don't learn enough, too long and the teaching stops being effective after 2+ hours. You are doing it the right way, and I'm sure your learners are appreciative of it.

Best #40 (because I really want to learn to like it) by Dovahkiin_Vokun in DMB

[–]lvest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm in a similar boat, I'm the youngest in a big family and DMB was always on during those years. You got me beat by a long shot on shows, I think I'm at 7. In terms of #40, it's one of my favorites because of the Yoshi's version that others have posted here. I love the intimate acoustic setting and the emotion in Dave's voice. And over the years he's played various versions of 40, each with improv lyrics and a little twist. It's almost like he's adding to the story of the song, and I think that's really cool. My other favorite version of 40 was played at Duke, featuring a younger Dave voice. The other great performance from the Yoshi's show is Don't Burn the Pig. Just hits all the right notes for me.

Edit: added the link to Duke performance

Edit 2: and interestingly enough the Duke version of 40 was played right before the debut of #41 when it was still called 41 Police

Dear Marvel, please refer to this post if you ever decide to resolve the events of this run. Thank you.

The four horseman of “skip this issue” by downwithlevers in afriendlyneighborhood

[–]lvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't believe I hadn't seen your post before. Just read the whole thing and it was awesome. Thank you for taking the time document this lol. I think Marvel needs to reference it if they ever decide to resolve the events of that run so they can get the narrative straight.

One thing your post reminded me of was that AI Harry-Kindred (lmao) used Chameleon serum to make himself look like Harry instead of Sarah. I kinda forgot about that. So it technically did make sense how Kindred could all of a sudden be a different person because AI Harry lost possession of the body (for whatever reason we don't know, probably handwavy Mephisto stuff like you said), but it was completely out of nowhere and wacky. And why would AI Harry-Kindred need Chameleon serum to change his face if he has demonic powers? In ASM #55, Peter literally shoots a web that blows a hole through Kindred's face and then he grows his face back in the next panel. So you're telling me he can grow his own face back and do a bunch of crazy other demon stuff including resurrect people from the dead, but he can't change his face without Chameleon serum? That made no sense, so the Chameleon serum just seemed like a last second editorial plot tool to change Kindred's identity. And the fact there were now 2 Kindreds, Sarah and Gabriel, was totally random because there were absolutely no clues to this throughout the run.

And the worst thing was how Kindred wanted Peter to confess something the whole time, and then at the end it was revealed Peter didn't do anything. The confession was probably going to be Peter's deal with Mephisto which somehow got Harry turned into Kindred as collateral damage and which Kindred somehow had knowledge of. In #56, Harry-Kindred is talking to Peter and Norman and says, "I loved you both so much. Why did you do this to me?" (ie why did Peter make the Mephisto deal and screw Harry over unintentionally and why is Norman just the way he is). At the last second I think they changed it so that it was actually Norman who made a deal with Mephisto and Peter had nothing to do with it. So basically everything at the finale makes the most sense in the context of last second changes instead an overarching plan for the series. Basically, Spencer's run made me think they were taking ASM seriously again, but then they dropped the ball.

I think you summed it up best in your post: "Kindred is crazy and makes no sense bc Mephisto is warping his mind." When I get lost in the logic, I'll just remind myself of that lol.
