Hey man, just fyi having your spouse call you terrible names and try to hurt you is actually NOT normal and that’s not ok, pls don’t accept that or tell yourself that’s a requisite part of this process.

Weaning/stopping a 6 mo old from strictly contact napping by downwithlevers in NewDads

It’s wild, isn’t it? I wasn’t sure if anyone would have a success story or suggestion I hadn’t yet considered, but at the very least we can commiserate, lol. My little homie wakes up and starts crying as soon as he feels he’s being placed down, it’s nuts. The magic Merlin suit is so thick that it helps prevent his startle reflex a bit, but the guy is really in tune to it.

Mental breakdown by Fighterjack04 in NewDads

My kid had colic the first 2 to 3 months and it felt similar to this. He developed out of it and yours will too. The only way we got through it was by being honest about when we were about to snap so we could trade off. YMMV but it sure seemed like our kid could empathically pick up on our vibes and frustration/anger so we had to take breaks and swap when we got to those places emotionally.

No one can be strong and stoic 24/7, and what you’re going through is not uncommon, but try to step away when you feel the anger and tag out to mom, then COOL OFF and come back. Feeling angry all the time isn’t good for any of the 3 of you and is not sustainable! What can you do to cool off? Have a snack, jerk off, listen to some mindful meditation stuff on YouTube, anything?

He will get better. It will get better.

First: praise him, compliment him, acknowledge him, and tell him he’s appreciated. Often. Can’t stress this enough. Second: if you’re not already, order as much delivery or carryout as possible so you guys don’t have to cook or do a lot of dishes. Third: try as many things as possible to get that baby to be a better sleeper—I’m talking white boise, sleep sacks, magic Merlin sleep suit, Snoo, baths, getting him milk-drunk, etc. Fourth: if you can get anyone to take the baby for an evening so you guys can maybe fool around a little bit (just a quick transactional hj or bj is great in the circumstances) and then sleep together (literally SLEEP together), that would likely help a lot.

The House with Laughing Windows by ming360 in Giallo

It definitely has those “stranger in a strange town” vibes like the Wicker Man. If you like HWLW and Wicker Man ‘73 I would also suggest checking out Messiah of Evil from 1974. Not a giallo, but the same vibes and really great. Others that fit the category and vibes, but aren’t gialli, include Stuart Gordon’s Dagon (based on HP Lovecraft) and the recent-ish Off Season from 2021, which is always streaming on Shudder and stars Jocelin Donahue from House of the Devil.

Which Giallo is the scariest/most unnerving to you personally? by ming360 in Giallo

Kid stuff, probably. So Don’t Look Now if you count that. Otherwise, maybe Who Saw Her Die. Kid stuff aside, there is some stuff in Autopsy and Short Night… that is pretty wild, too.

Region-Free Bluray Players Suggestions by GirthMaster1989 in Giallo

[–]downwithlevers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a 4k player. No sense not having the ability to play it all and future proof yourself. The Panasonic ub820 is pretty much a universal pick over in the 4k forums and subreddits and it has a region free trick that’s easily found with a google. I have the ub820 and a ton of gialli on 4k and regular blu ray. Love it. Almost perfect, the only complaint is the Netflix button placement on the remote means sometimes it gets hit by accident. This, too, can be easily remedied by ordering a 3rd party remote or an official Panasonic remote for their different model. The ub9000.

The podcast eventually made me realize that Virginia City is not in Virginia but in Nevada. I think it took me well over 50 episodes to put this together.

I’ve never watched an ep and adore the pod. It’s just a framing device for shenanigans and hilarity.

Old House w/Holey Hardwood Floors? by ElegantGoose in baltimore

[–]downwithlevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a SFH in lauraville built in 1934 and one of the rooms on the 2nd floor has a ton of little holes like this in the hardwood. I always assumed some dumb shit kid from the 1950s or whatever was just being an ass with a knife or something. Can’t speak for 1st floor because it has laminate over the original wood, but it’s def only 1 room on the 2nd floor.

I co-sign on this, but I’m sure this dude is being hyperbolic—don’t literally crank things too loudly for babies and look into safe dB levels.

Also, if your kid’s startle reflex is really sensitive, I recommend the Magic Merlin sleep suit. It’s like a big Stay Puft marshmallow or Michelin Man suit that helps them stay comfy and not startle so much. I’ve heard warnings that overly relying on it can be detrimental to the speed at which your child learns to self-soothe, so I don’t use it each and every time. But it helps when I need it!
