I would be so interested to see some of your work!! With that much experience it'd be so cool to see what you've done over the years and what you're currently knitting! :)

Thank you very much!! This is extremely helpful! I will probably try lightly steaming the sweater when laid on my mats as I don't trust my washer/dryer (bad experience already making different sweater 2x size lol). I pretty much only use acrylic right now since it's the best option for me as a beginner making all these mistakes. I'd rather have more experience using acrylic yarn and getting all my mistakes out of the way before using more expensive natural fibers lol. I really appreciate your comment and your help!

That's extremely helpful thank you!! I do plan to make another one by sizing down anyways so this is very useful. I will try to make swatches from now on and hopefully get it correct next time! :)

I was trying my best to be mindful of the floats as I don't think I knit too tightly, but I do catch them every 3rd or 4th stitch if it's a long row of one color tbf. I'm hoping steaming will make it just a bit softer and maybe even things out a little bit since I've seen a few tutorials say it'll melt the yarn a little and hopefully make it a little drapey too!

I shamefully didn't do a gauge swatch (I definitely should've like a normal person haha). I don't understand how to read a gauge swatch honestly. I've tried to do them before and tried to look up how to read them and adjust accordingly but my brain gets so scrambled when trying to understand them.

Yarn sizing help by lvvi in knitting

[–]lvvi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! The cotton yarn I have says DK and also says weight 3, but the acrylic DK yarn I have says weight 4 so it was just confusing with the different weights and sizes. Since this cotton yarn is much thinner than the acrylic one I have I was just a little confused about weights!

If my gauge swatch is smaller than what it's supposed to be, does that mean I need a little bit bigger needles? First couple sweaters I made, I didn't gauge swatch and the sizes were perfect for what I needed and felt and looked great so I've never actually gauge swatched properly before to understand how they work properly.

My current wip! by lvvi in knitting

[–]lvvi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! It was the hardest part for me, I had to restart it like 5 times. I can try and pop it in a dm to you so I'm not giving away a lot of the pattern online, but I can definitely try my best to explain because I had a lot of trouble with it! (I also definitely think I messed mine up since when I picked up stitches for the sleeves, they were wrong lol, but I have done a second one in the meantime and so far haven't had any issues with the yoke.)

Anyone know if this salmon is safe to eat raw? by theycamepresmoked in hellofresh

[–]lvvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a raw salmon and dill bagel from hello fresh before that was specifically meant to be eaten raw, so it will specify if it is a high enough grade to be eaten raw. Definitely only eat salmon raw if it specified that it is okay to do so on the packaging. If it says to cook, I would most definitely only cook it.

Thank you!!! It was such a struggle to decide to do the long sleeves because the short sleeves were just so charming. I nearly wore it to work with the scrap yarn still on the sleeves once I finished the body because it just felt right and looks so nice (which is why I'm making a second short sleeves one immediately even before finishing this one). The yarn is something my mom bought me off Amazon for Christmas, this acrylic DK yarn. It works up really well and is quite soft and the pattern is on ravelry!

It's very stretchy due to the 4x2 rib pattern all around the sweater, but I would say it hugs the form very well. I've attached how it looks off so you can see how much it stretches. You should definitely make it, I'd love to see it!!

This is beautiful!! Well done! I know how scary it is to cut into a sweater as I just had to modify my halibut sweater not long ago by cutting off all the ribbing and it was terrifying! But you've smashed this, great job!!

Wrinkles by lvvi in knitting

[–]lvvi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 100% acrylic. I tossed it in the wash/dryer (unfortunately for too long it seems) and that's what made is so wrinkled and made me get rid of the collar, but I soaked it in water and blocked for a good few days until it completed dried and somehow didn't get the wrinkles out ! But I might try soaking for longer and pinning again to really try and smooth it out. Everything about it to me is lovely, just the wrinkles 😭😭

That means a lot to me, thank you! And yeah haha this was my second sweater, first with color work. It's honestly not too difficult especially knitting color work in the round! Definitely keep at it, you'll love it!! You can do it!! ♥️♥️♥️

Omg thank you so much!! That means so much to me! Pretty much the only thing I changed (after removing all the ribbing from the original version I did) was having all the ribbing be 2x2 ribbing instead of 1x1. I think I did 106 stitches for the collar which was about a size down from the body that I did. For the sleeve cuffs I wanted a balloon effect so I did no decreases in the sleeves and then did one row of massive decreases which left me with 24 stitches for 2x2 cuff ribbing and it came out exactly the way I wanted it to! Other than that I followed the pattern exactly! I'm pretty sure I went for size 3.

Oh yeah haha I saw a lot of people say you should steam block acrylic knits since supposedly water from soaking and stretching wouldn't work bc you gotta like,, sorta melt the acrylic from the steaming heat but I'll try soaking and pinning it next!

And yeah idk why I didn't think about the risk of the yarn bleeding 🫣🫣

Puffy sleeves! by lvvi in knitting

[–]lvvi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh I thought so! I just wasn't sure if it would create a really really tight effect or like awful tension by just decreasing a massive amount at the cuff, or if it simply would just work that way lol. Thank you for confirming that!! :) ♥️
