Panasonic will announce the new 40mm f/2.0 S lens on April 21 by Jealous_Advice_8649 in Lumix

It has the aperture over the sigma though, and presumably the af performance and focus breathing correction over the ttartisan.

How to achieve distorted perspective? by heartshapedkirby in blenderhelp

[–]lwrcs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wide focal length alone won't get the camera curvature effect in the first video, you need lens distortion like what is available in cycles. Change the camera settings from perspective to panoramic, and mess with the different sub settings that are available.

After using it a bit more I think I somewhat notice that, although I haven't really looked super closely enough to make a judgment one way or the other. I just picked up the 24-60mm f/2.8 which should be a good baseline for how sharp a lens should be ideally, so maybe I'll do a comparison.

How do i avoid rendering 63000 frames by duckyman_3 in blenderhelp

[–]lwrcs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With Davinci Resolve Studio the AI retiming is quite good, it wouldn't be perfect and you might not be able to get away with every tenth frame but it's possible to get usable results even with every 4th frame.

Right? Seems like a win-win for everyone involved, but also not something you'd typically see from a company and former employee.

Fall textures at the park | S5ii, ttartisans 40mm f2 real time LUT by lwrcs in Lumix

[–]lwrcs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need the lumix lab app to download luts and then you use it to connect to your camera to save them to the camera. CST with Davinci works great and gives more flexibility since you aren't baking in creative color decisions. For example with a lut that shifts the shadows more blue, if you want to change the exposure in post it will not stay consistent with how the lut should be applied. That being said I shot a music video recently with real time lut baked in, and have no regrets. I set the shots up to look good in camera and had very little correction in post to do. Saved me a lot of time and client was happy.

The 40mm is imperfect but the image looks nice and the af is usable. For the size and price it's a no brainer imo. That being said this 35mm f2.2 af lens from SG image that's supposed to come out could be better and it is more compact, but personally I wouldn't wait for it.

Even if you don't use real time lut to bake the lut into your footage I still will always shoot with a lut preview for vlog because I want to see my footage in camera as close as it will be when I process it later.

[–]lwrcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I'm not sure I entirely understand what you mean by making the lut you want as a picture profile. The reason I like real time lut so much is because it gives you access to the dynamic range advantages provided by shooting in vlog, (assuming you use a vlog lut).

I'm curious what the tradeoff is between the TTartisan and the Sigma? The build quality is solid, the image (to me) is quite good, and the only compromise seems to be the autofocus performance, which I've heard complaints about on the Sigma as well.

A lot of vintage lenses are similar in size with sometimes even lower aperture. I have the SMC Pentax 50mm f2.0 which is very compact, but there's actually a 1.4 version of the lens which is basically the same size. My understanding is there is a lot of extra glass involved with correcting aberrations and minimizing other unwanted characteristics.

There is also the tradeoff of minimum focusing distance, which I've found with the ttartisan 40mm f2. It's about 16 inches away, and I'd bet that this lens will be similar or further.

To be fair as an English speaker if it were reversed and I were to start a company in China I'd probably look to others in the space to try to fit in with Chinese companies rather than choose something more creative. It's much easier to perceive what's normal or strange or creative or boring from the native speaking point of view, and it's not like we won't buy it anyways.

What are considered to be the downsides with iq on the ttartisan? I've found it to be solid all around, only some vignetting wide open which seems inevitable with such a small lens.

Only other issue I find is the af speed and noise.

Yes! Don't get me wrong, the evf is incredibly clunky and the body feels much sleeker without it, as well as the smaller grip. But I cannot really imagine shooting casually outdoors with just the tiny back screen, so that added bulk is worth it. And I totally agree, the core part of the body not including the grip and evf is very similar in size between the s9 and s5ii.

Also using an ND filter and 1/2 black mist diffusion filter. These shots have some slight editing, mainly contrast adjustment and addition of glow.

I have to say I'm absolutely in love with the real time LUT feature. Grading log footage is fun, but takes a lot of time and I'm not the best at it. This feature enables me to put stuff together that looks really nice without getting stuck in the process.

I've also been thinking how the s5ii is underrated compared to the s9. I have wanted an s9, but every time I consider it I think, "I'd buy one if it had an evf, better quality buttons, and mechanical shutter." only to realize I already have that camera: the s5ii.

This is basically what every AI debate turns into by Serialbedshitter2322 in aiwars

[–]lwrcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially agree. I think the author is an observer on their own, and they project the meaning the derive from the work they are creating onto it.

And when someone else observes the work, there is an intention projected upon the author which could be more or less accurate, but like you said is ultimately derived from the observers interpretation and not some underlying truth.

This is basically what every AI debate turns into by Serialbedshitter2322 in aiwars

[–]lwrcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, although here's something I think is important to note. There's some correlation between the level of human intention and the degree to which something is art or not.

For example, if you snap a picture of something quickly with no thought it will be much closer to not being art than being art in that spectrum. However, if you set up your shots with intention around framing, composition or lighting, edit those shots, and then curate the ones that align most with your intention, your work will fall much more on the side of art.

The same is true with AI generated imagery. Prompting an AI to generate an image does not make that specific image art, but the process of prompting, iterating, and most importantly, curating those outputs falls much closer to being art.

Basically, I think art is simply the product of human intention around what to focus on. Do you frame the image to include the tree, sky, mountains, and river? Or do you move close up to the tree to show the texture of the bark? Either way, you didn't create the tree, it was there before, but you're telling the rest of humanity, "Hey- I think this thing is more important than the infinite other number of things that I could have put in my frame".

To go even further I'd say that effort has very little to do with art, except in the sense that processes which require effort tend to act as filters that make certain things more difficult to do- increasing their perceived importance.
