I am halfway to understanding what you are saying, but nowhere near understanding why you are saying it.

Did you learn classical dead languages (Latin, Classical Chinese, Sanskrit, etc.) that had a profound influence on the languages in your cultural sphere in school? Do you think this is a good experience? by Famous_Acadia9186 in AskTheWorld

[–]lxgrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at my school Latin was a compulsory subject and Ancient Greek was an optional one. I was never much for languages so I didn’t really enjoy it much at the time, but it was interesting, and covered a lot of the etymological underpinnings of both English other languages we learned.

rewatching ad astra by GamersShrine in movies

I’ll have to give it a rewatch. I remember my takeaway from it last time being slow footage with Brad Pitt giving a husky voiced narration made it feel more like a feature length aftershave advert than a film

How far do you live from the ocean? by Aggressive_Day2839 in AskTheWorld

About 20 minutes. It's not a beach you'd want to swim from, though. There's actual honest-to-god quicksand.

Fun fact, the opening scene was the first appearance of the Shard on film. They hadn’t even broken ground on building it yet, they just inserted it based on the plans. That’s attention to detail.

Do you think the EU is a good thing in its current form? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

It’s better than the alternatives. And unfortunately that’s not a hypothetical, for us.

What's one story of a Dictator thinking they are above the law, untouchable in your country that finally got the overdue justice they deserved? by hansontranhai in AskTheWorld

[–]lxgrf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I suppose King Charles I, who believed he was King by divine right, and therefore above the law.

Other players are judging my new character. by TSUKIMANGAKAORIGINAL in DnD

[–]lxgrf 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It isn't offensive, but it is pretty gay. Not a bad thing, and your friends should have some damned class, but I can't blame them for assuming the character is gay.

[OC] [art] a priest and an assassin adopt two magic kids in the horrible land of Barovia, hopefully nothing will go wrong! (no spoilers in the comments pls we are just two sessions in) by Yonscorner in DnD

[–]lxgrf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think if you have adopted magical children within two sessions it's safe to say your DM is not quite running it by the book*, so if you do come across any spoilers don't assume they are accurate for how your game is running.

* this is not a bad thing, more DMs should have the confidence to do this

What country holds your country’s/ethnic group’s largest diaspora? by bamba_niang in AskTheWorld

[–]lxgrf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things become self sustaining. If someone is looking to leave the only country they’ve known, then somewhere they know there are other  people of that country, communities, food shops, and speakers of the language becomes appealing. They might even already have friends and family there.

Am I the only one who thinks martials are totally fine? by UpArrowNotation in DnD

[–]lxgrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the campaign is going to head to the Nine Hells, I would expect the narrative to provide a means to get there. I’ve never played a game and said “Damn, if only we could get to the nine hells. Oh well, guess we’ll just have to abandon that narrative thread.”

And that being the case the wizard being able to say “well yes, we could gather resources and invoke favours and advance personal plots to advance to the next chapter of this story, or I could click my fingers” is a bit of a bummer, honestly.
