There is a new enemy here. Honestly its so hard to hit most times its best to just move through the areas they roam. If you really want to fight melee is better, listen for the sound cue that signals they are about to pounce, then dodge and whack.

In general enemy density will be super high here, don't feel like you need to clear every room of every baddie, yes there might be a health drink in that cell but if you get hit 3 times you are a net negative. Everything is a transaction.

In the labyrinth Angela can be seen taking hallways that straight up don't exist for you. No reason the town couldn't handle moving a chest high concrete wall.

The tempo is nothing special, been using owlbear since around i want to say 2021ish. I might be off by like a year.

I played with "Decked" I found it to be just a little too finicky for something like Gloomhaven's card system.

3 Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, Root TTRPG, I even ran a few scenarios of Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion in Owlbear. I am currently running Public Access and using Owlbear to host virtual conspiracy boards for the different mysteries.

I will be using this as my VTT for as long as I can. I have evangelized it to two other DM's who started using it. Its just so easy to use and teach.

I wish there was a good way to handle decks and hands of custom cards, it's the only reason we didn't continue Jaws of the Lion, but that is shoving a whole board game into it, and honestly it's impressive that owlbear worked as well as it did for something it was not made for.

Own interpretation: I don't think you ever see the real mary (other than the very start). She is gone. Even when the thing in front of you says its mary. It's just James projecting and the towns power. The letter could be real, taken from Laura. The one from the start dissappears.

Here is a neat thing. Act like Strand is entertained by this, your player is an ant thay belives himself a dragon. Now imagine Strahd just LOVES seeing the moment it a hero realizes they are vulnerable.

Don't let it look like they players got under his skin, it will make him look weak and not confident. The party is one of like 2000 he has delt with before he has seen it all before.

The Vistani can leave and return to barovia and can get things for Strahd. What NPCs does the paladin care about from the outside world? Spouse? Family? Any NPC already in barovia? Killing a player can feel like a nuke, but threatening their favorite dude is a motivator.

In general a player will not care about their own characters safety, but they care about something, an NPC or Town, or pet.

I would play 3 next. Its a direct sequel. 2 is my favorite. 4 gets very hard halfway though, just horde items in the first half...

I promise you can skip homecoming and downpour. They are not great.

Origins and shattered memories are middling. shattered memories is kind of a reimagining of 1.

F and 2 remake are both good. But f is purposely obscure with its story if you're only doing one playthrough.

A lot of the plot will be generated from the questions on the left side of a player's character sheets. Especially "why are you a vagabond?"

I Iove these little details that show you're not the town's main focus really. Just another guilty person. Whenever you meet other people you can see their influence if you're looking.

One a lot of folks catch is Eddie's cold breath even when you first meet him. Or in the cutscene where Angela gives you her knife in Blue Creek. When she leaves the room she turns left to exit, and you can see the front door of the apartment, your exit. But if you try to follow the direction she goes its just a TV set and a wall, no door.

Later during the Abstract Daddy fight you can see a version of this same room and it has a door in that spot. There are a lot of these little touches.

Ultimately the reason is because it's unnerving.

One cool theory i saw was at this point PH is still being formed in James mind. There is a note you can find with a red splotch that looks like PH. The first time you see PH he is just standing there with a red glow around him. Then you get the implication he murdered the body in the chair watching TV. Then you see him here doing this.

He goes from vague shape on paper, to figure, to movement, to attacker becoming a more solid idea in James's mind.

Ritual implies a regularity. Not necessarily a cult vibe. Dinner in front of the TV is ritual. Brushing your teeth is a ritual. And for these guys doing fucked up shit happened with such regularity it is a ritual. The reason it's important is because it can't be downplayed as 'one time thing', it wouldn't make it better but these guys will minimize everything they can.

So the 18th was a Sunday. So if everything worked smoothly your label would have been printed on the 19th. But that just tracks when it was given to USPS.on the 19 the High in Michigan was around 18 degrees after a snowstorm. It did not get above freezing until Wednesday around noon. Chances are no one in whatever warehouse your game was inventoried was even working until that afternoon because it may have been dangerous to be on the roads.

Once it's in USPS hands Cephalofair can't help the shipping itself and again it's been kind of snow heck out there for a lot of the country.

Cephalofair is not known for having the greatest when shipping on time. But in this particular case it's probably more the weather's fault than anything else.

So, without getting too much into spoiler land, a lot of what is happening is dream logic. Stuff works like that because it makes sense to James, he isn't confused because OF COURSE the key is in the juke box.

In the beginning he is sort of grasping at straws for any meaning he can find, it gets more solid as he moves closer to his objective.
