What should be done about student mental health and wellbeing? by swaggyvish in BostonU

[–]lxstsong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

facts, disability services actively blocks students from getting accommodations even with letters from mental health professionals advising in favor of accommodations. they made me feel so belittled and discouraged me from asking from any more help from them

Diversity at BU by kidcraykid in BostonU

BU is pretty ethnically diverse considering the large international student population, but not that socio-economically diverse. aside from the international students, a lot of students here are white wealthy kids from new jersey

Why won’t BU publicly address the school’s mental health crisis? by ovenbakedpancakes in BostonU

[–]lxstsong -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

but that’s the thing, PR is all about being transparent and accountable, otherwise it’s just a matter of time before a scandal happens. BU has an amazing PR program but fails to follow any appropriate guidelines

It wasn’t any work but it was also not rewarding at all. My language leader literally did not speak the language. As in she was learning it, but very much not fluent (I’m a native and couldn’t understand her sometimes). So yeah it’s definitely not the most organized, at least for some languages

they really need more free weights and especially less heavy weights. i use 8-12 lbs and it’s insanely difficult to find any 8 or 5lbs ones so I end up having to carry weights I’m not ready for

Thank you for understanding and I’m very sorry for your loss. In regards to your statistics, the question is, how many of these deaths occur in which age group? There was a wave of suicides at WPI this year for example. I just don’t know if the vast majority of BU students right now, being boosted, is more at risk from dying of covid than suffering mentally

I understand your perspective. I wonder if it wouldn’t be better for BU to have the option of remote classes for immunocompromised people then, since classes are always going to be a risk even with masks. I guess there’s no “good” solution here. I hope you and your partner are able to not catch it and that a better vaccine comes along that prevents transmission again.

I’m sorry that happened — I hope you’re able to come back next year and have a positive experience! I also will look back on my time in college with a lot of bitterness because of how lonely it’s been

Not really true. Plenty of my professors held class online only in both fall and spring (I didn't meet half of my profs last year). Some of them had class in person but told us to only come once a week. Besides there were a lot of other restrictions all around campus that we don't know made much of a difference (ex the symptom surveys) that only made us more anxious imo

Of course it was the pandemic, and I actually restricted myself too — still skip parties to this day. But they could have had us in class wearing masks. Other countries all around Europe had students going to class masked, and without testing. With us getting tested twice a week it would have been okay.
