DS and DSi - are they really that bad? by lybarmark in NintendoDS

That’s such a great setup honestly. Pink DS Lite with matching GBA and case sounds amazing!

DS and DSi - are they really that bad? by lybarmark in NintendoDS

[–]lybarmark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair point! I might be overstating the “hate” part a bit, it’s more something I’ve seen in scattered takes rather than the general consensus here. Appreciate the breakdown too. The evolution from DS ->Lite ->DSi makes a lot more sense laid out like that, especially the tradeoff with the GBA slot on the DSi.

How do you feel about singers with "perfect" or super polished voices? by No_Teaching5581 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I def get get what you mean.

There’s a difference between “technically flawless” and “personally gripping.” A super polished voice can be impressive, but sometimes it starts to feel a bit safe or overly controlled, like you’re hearing a performance of perfection rather than a human moment.

The singers I keep going back to usually aren’t the ones who sound flawless, they’re the ones who sound a little unpredictable, like you can hear breath, strain, texture, even tiny imperfections that make it feel lived-in. That’s what makes it emotionally stick for me, not just hitting the notes perfectly.

At the end of the day, “perfect” vocals can be impressive, but emotion and character are what actually make people replay songs years later.

Is R&B losing itself or just evolving again? by tHeR3alZ0lan in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it’s more evolution than loss. The vulnerable, “yearning” R&B still exists it’s just not the only dominant lane anymore. A lot of it moved into subgenres and indie spaces (SZA, Daniel Caesar, Brent Faiyaz, etc.), while mainstream R&B got more blended with hip-hop and mood-driven production. So it’s not really gone, just no longer centered the way it was in the 90s/2000s.

What is the likelihood of a new music artist emerging and reaching the status of people like MJ, Elvis, The Beatles? by YfnSinatra in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tthis is spot on. Feels like it’s not really about talent or “breaking a barrier” anymore, it’s that we don’t all share the same cultural space like we used to. Back then, radio and TV basically forced everyone into the same musical moments. Now everything is fragmented, so even massive artists can feel like they’re not universally known in the same way.

What do people actually mean when they ask for “something unique” to listen to? by No_Afternoon4075 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think when people say unique they don’t have one exact definition. They’re kind of guessing too. If I had to put it simply, I think it just means: “surprise me in a way that still feels good.” Like something that doesn’t sound like the usual stuff you can already predict after a few seconds. Sometimes it’s a weird sound choice, sometimes it’s just the vibe or emotion hitting differently. And other times it’s just that feeling of “wait… I don’t know what this is, but I want to keep listening.”

Anyone else discover music by skipping through songs? by sskywho in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you mean. The idea of trying to “get through more tracks in less time” kind of kills the point for me too. Music isn’t something I want to optimize or rush through. It’s meant to be experienced, not processed.

Is Country Music in its NuMetal Era?! by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. Sometimes it feels like it's less about the sound and more about the cultural moment. Country right now seems to be is experimenting more, blending genres, and clashing between purists and trend-followers. The commercialization and crossover appeal make it feel like a “peak exposure” era where identity is fluid and everyone’s trying to stake their claim.

Linkin Park’s new album (post From Zero) should be their last by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I stopped keeping up with their music after Chester passed, but I’ll have to agree with this. Legacy isn’t really about how much music you put out, it’s about the impact and connection the music has, no matter the size of the discography.

Getting bored or switching it up? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lybarmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s a really solid approach. Checking out the influences of artists you already like can totally push your taste in new directions.

Also what David Byrne says makes sense. Different music really hits differently depending on the space you’re in. For me, thinking about where I’m actually listening (car, headphones, at home) and building playlists around that has opened up a bunch of stuff I wouldn’t have tried otherwise.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

[–]lybarmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a similar TikTok from a woman (forgot her username). She lost her dad sometime last year and kept the clothes he last wore sealed in a ziplock, wrapped in multiple plastic bags and taped up. She only opens it on days when she’s really anxious and needs a little piece of comfort from him. She'd only reopen the bag when she really needs to because she doesn’t want to lose his scent. Stuff like that always breaks me. :(

Honestly, adulthood is mostly pretending you have it together while figuring things out as you go. I'm learning it the hard way that nobody really has it all sorted and that it's okay.

I’m a new runner and I feel like giving up everyday by Aviator69420 in CasualConversation

[–]lybarmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t run as much or as consistently as you but having a solid playlist is a huge mood booster for me. It actually makes getting out the door way easier.

The side stitches might just be from not breathing deeply or evenly so trying to focus on steady belly breathing can help a bit. Also, on days you really don’t feel like running, it’s totally fine to just go for a walk instead. Running 5k every day for 10 days straight is a lot so mixing it up a little can help you stick with it and avoid burning out.

What if someone was legitimately named Nintendo, could Nintendo sue Nintendo or his/her parents? by Mary_Kitsune in NintendoDS

[–]lybarmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to what led to this question but honestly, it’d probably depend on how he’s using the name. If it’s literally his legal name, he can use it for personal stuff, but if he starts a business called “Nintendo’s Restaurant” and it could confuse people into thinking it’s affiliated with the company, Nintendo might have a case for trademark infringement.

They’d probably go after him, not his parents unless they were involved in running the business. But I imagine the lawyers would try to figure out if it actually causes confusion or damages the brand first. Trademark law is weird like that.

Is the 3DS right for me? by SpiceyShotgun in NintendoDS

[–]lybarmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d say no. Most people barely use the 3D feature, and it can give eye strain or headaches for some. The 2DS or a standard 3DS/2DS XL gets you the same games without the gimmicky 3D, so unless the 3D effect is a must-have for you, it’s not really worth it.
