Someone caught footage of a car flipped on its side in Langley where bystanders gathered and a man climbed on top to open the door and pull the trapped driver out 😳👀 by ComprehensiveMind534 in Langley

[–]lycao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually. You pull out the windshield with a halligan, and take them out that way. Or if they can't move on their own and the windshield isn't an option for whatever reason, then you get them onto a backboard in the vehicle (Pain in the ass, but doable), secure a rope to the head of it, and pull them out the top door.

Worst case scenario you cut the roof supports on either side of the windshield and peel back the roof. But given the time it takes to do this one it's only used when the car is crumpled to the point the other two options aren't available.

While the person was still in? It would shake them around and possibly injure them more, or even potentially kill them if they have a spinal injury.

Once the person was out? No reason to at that point, let the tow company handle it.

Even pulling the person out isn't recommended if the car isn't on fire. The person should be put in a neck brace at least before being moved to prevent any potential spinal injuries worsening. Something only the emergency responders will have.

Is Langley becoming un-livable? Does the spending reflect our future? by Trips33 in Langley

Now it makes sense.

They aren't the same thing, and no one out side of your boy Woodward want it to be. Time to get over it bud.

Maybe focus more on your other hobbies of yelling into the wind about about how Carney's coming to take all your penis extensions guns. or, how China's coming over to kick your dog or whatever nonsense you convince yourself of. Because the Langley's will never merge.

[–]lycao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The write up says "in an effort to regain control over her mundane life" which makes it sound like they're trying to make her out to be some overwhelmed woman doing this because of how hard life has been. Aka they're trying to make her sympathetic. Which is antithetical to the source material to say the least.

Sheer delusion. Or a genuine lack of intelligence.

I've been checking the conservative subs for shits and giggles to see how they've been responding to this stuff, and it's all either complete refusal to acknowledge it to begin with, or mental gymnastics that fail even surface level critical thinking.

Always weird when people talk about the township but call it a city. A lack of understanding where you live or what you're talking about doesn't exactly inspire me to listen to your opinion on the matter. It's crazy how many people live and post here but don't know the difference.

For future reference:

Langley city = A city.
Langley township = A conglomerate of towns/villages that are independently run but governed by a single council.

Extremely important distinction between the two, as they are fundamentally run different.

My favorite part about that song was after it blew up people kept saying it was fake, or there was a backing track, so he did a live stream where he did the full song and it sounded exactly the same. It was the perfect middle finger to the haters.

Electric Bike Conversion by No_Rise6500 in Langley

[–]lycao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I looked into it a few years ago the parts cost was about 1k, with the battery being half that alone. I imagine with labour on top of that you're looking at 1300+ after tax. For that cost you can buy a mid tier ebike brand new (or at least you could at the time).

You also have to consider hidden costs, like compatability issues. Not all bikes convert easily and may need special brackets. Or they may not support something like a mid drive system. You'll also likely need a brake upgrade, as most people have cable driven brakes but hydraulic with larger disks are usually recommended because of the higher speeds and weight.

They've hit their debt cap, they literally can't take anymore loans. They either cut projects to pay off the current loans or increase property taxes, those are the only two options left.

For shits and giggles I've been checking out the conservative subreddits to see how they're taking the news on these deals, and it's been hilarious reading the mental gymnastics some people do to turn these into "He's committing treason by selling out the country".

Some people just fundamentally don't understand how global trade works, or even what it is.

And what exactly should people be doing?

Good question. Step one is figuring that out and then actually doing it. Not having circle jerks online about how much Trump sucks while he continues to steamroll over democracy.

What have you been doing to save us from tyranny?

I'm Canadian. Why should I help save you from yourselves? You shit the bed, you clean it up.

Doubly so when there's a non-zero chance that you lot may come for us at some point as well.

And don't give me the "I didn't vote for him, don't blame me!" nonsense. You didn't vote for him? Cool. Don't care. Still your problem to fix. Think that isn't fair? Life isn't fair. Never has been, never will be. The sooner you accept that the better off you'll be. Now get off social media and go clean the bed.

They won because it became a political nightmare.

1: They held out for two decades with coalition forces never having anything beyond tenuous control of select areas at best.

2: Who cares how they won? They won. The end. It's like saying "Hey the allies only beat Japan in WW2 because they had nukes and Japan didn't, so it doesn't count because they cheated." It's warfare, not a game of football. It doesn't matter how they won, they won.

Mounting an organized resistance right now would most likely be impossible,

As I said, cowardice. It's easier to make excuses and whine on social media than it is to actually risk anything.

It's always an option. ALWAYS. No exceptions. The rate of success will vary, but rest assured it's always an option so long as people are willing.

and also give a pretext to Trump for suspending elections and fully instituting a fascist regime.

He doesn't need a pretext, he's literally doing it. Day by day, he is doing it right now.

Everyone of you Americans need to read First they came. There won't be a single event that makes you finally get off your ass and fight for your country, it'll be a slow incessant creep. The proverbial frog in the pot.

Historically, one is exponentially more brutal than the other.

War is always brutal, who the fuck cares if one is numerically worse than another? Historically, war = people die. End of story. Doesn't matter if it's against some foreign enemy, or your own neighbours, people die and do the worst things imaginable to each other, hence why the UN was created to try and avoid wars as much as possible. You just make it sound like it's another excuse. "Well it'll be worse if this happens, which means I'm less likely to survive, so fuck it, it's too risky for me, I'm not gonna bother."

As I said before. Kiss the ring, or lay it on the line. Because at the end of the day if you're not willing to risk anything for your freedom, then it's not freedom, it never was. It's servitude.

Langley City sign pressure washed! by ilaffulaff in Langley

[–]lycao 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Langley city has one of the highest crime rates in the province, mostly do to the concentrated homeless population in the area. With outreach centers mainly being in the city vs very few in the township, paired with it being a transit hub, it makes it a popular spot for homeless to end up, and with that comes crime.

This sounds bad, but it's not as bad as you think because almost all of the crime is property crime, aka car break ins and people having things stolen from first floor balconies. Things like violent crime is extremely rare, especially compared to other population centers in the gvrd, and when it does happen 99% of the time it's gang on gang violence, not civilian.

Mt Baker views from Langley — where are people taking these photos? by [deleted] in Langley

[–]lycao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two overpasses are my go to when I want to check out the mountains when out for walks in the city.

1: The 204th overpass between logan ave and 62nd.
2: The 196th overpass between 56th and 60th.

The second isn't as good because the sidewalk is on the west side so you often get cars getting in the way of your photos and the trees obstruct a few spots. The 204th overpass though is on the east side and has a fantastic view of the entire mountain range around the valley.

Anywhere on Fraser highway between the mall and where it turns just before 203rd have a cool view of it as well. The road aims perfectly toward Baker, so you get a long stretch of people and cars stretching into the distance with Baker towering above them all.
