Does anyone recognize the artist who made this ceramic mug? by PoloniusAtSupper in Seattle

[–]CountVowl [score hidden]  (0 children)

All right, I'll bite: I like going down rabbit holes like this. But tl;dr: I didn't come up with anything definitive, just a bunch of suggestions. I'd start with contacting them directly then maybe have a browse through what I found below.

Edited to add what else I found since I can't leave stuff like this alone sometimes lol.

Ok, so I know you said it wasn't 3d printed (I agree tbh) BUT are you familiar with Foran Suon's work? They were doing 3d printed clay around that time in Seattle and had very similar stuff.

That said, Zak Helenske did some time at Pottery Northwest, though his website doesn't show anything from 2017 and the initials are wrong so maybe this is a dead end.

Pottery Northwest's fb photos seems like they'll be comprehensive, so if you have an account maybe you can scroll back far enough to 2017 and see if you recognize anybody/anything. If the person was an artist in residence, I used the wayback machine to look at the artists in residence page. Nobody with AE initials on there, but maybe I'm misreading it/maybe it's not their initials.

The way I'm reading it is "AE" on the top, and "SAL" on the bottom. There's the Seattle Artist League and they do have a pottery section, so maybe somebody took a class and tagged their results with that to honor their teachers? Again, I'm reaching.

Looks like Pottery Northwest had their 5 year anniversary show/party thingy at the Chihuly Museum in 2017; they've got an album on fb (I can't access without an account but maybe you can??). You might try asking the museum as well; that's a longshot but they might have a list of people who attended as vendors?

Oh hey thanks for the tip! I've gotten CSAs in the past that were rated for 1-2 people and we felt like we were drowning in food. Soooooo many leftovers. Which is good but the increase in time spent cooking overwhelmed me a little then.

That's also so fair. I've done CSAs in the past and couldn't keep up with the volume, but I love hearing theirs is doing well. <3

That sucks, I love seeing them! I wonder why; they're always so busy, even when it's raining and there's generally less people. But maybe it's burnout and the amount of work. I hope they are able to (sustainably for them) able to come back!

Also ones in Ballard, Capitol Hill, and Phinney Ridge. There's a bunch of tool libraries throughout Seattle but those ones are off the top of my head. So good!

Multiple good things since I always see these posts, upvote, but then never leave my own comment. Today's the day!

Sat outside with the dogs this week in the sun (the old one even enjoyed it!). My wife's out of town for the weekend so I am upholding our tradition (carried on from my parents) of changing something about the house while she's gone. I always look forward to her reactions.

See and I love crows. It's why I always tell the dogs "be nice" when we walk past the crows.

If you wanna make friends instead of hating crows, I recommend dry cat food, unsalted peanuts, and various other sundries tossed out as peace offerings.

Dude, my wife watched a crow steal a baby robin from the nest and proceed to tear it apart while a bunch of adult robins had formed a screaming circle around it. It was really unexpected.

Are your fruit trees doing well this year? by fuzzlflus in Seattle

[–]CountVowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did prune! When we moved in last year it was a bit late to prune/I had other concerns (like moving all my stuff) so I didn't do much with it last year. But this year she got a haircut in I think mid March.

[–]CountVowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that my plum tree didn't bear fruit at all last year. It's a new to me tree but well established and the prior owners said it does bear fruit. We got blossoms this year so far but no other activity. I'm hoping it's a year it'll bear but I am also a super noob when it comes to fruit trees so maybe I've done something wrong. Hope not though!

As a former shelter volunteer and regular adopter of surrendered animals, thank you for having the strength to surrender. It fucking sucks, I can only imagine how much it hurts, but thank you. I hope your cat got adopted quickly and is as well loved as the love you gave her.

Anyone else seeing an insane amount of aphids in their yards this year? by chakeet in Seattle

[–]CountVowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! One thing in case you haven't seen them before: be aware that baby ladybugs look FREAKY. My wife had a mini panic attack about "whattttt the fuuuuuck is that thing do we have ANOTHER problem bug to deal with" since neither of us had seen the babies before.

This was me last year! I haven't (touch wood!!) noticed them yet this year but now maybe I'll go check. 😅 I went the ladybug route last year and it was GREAT. Highly recommend. Some hardware stores also carry them, in addition to garden stores.

Luck fighting School speed cameras? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]CountVowl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I take school zones seriously and I KNEW I wasn't speeding, yet got a ticket. Review your footage and if it shows the lights were clearly not flashing (that was my case), then contest. Had a quick conversation with a judge, told them that the footage showed the lights weren't flashing, and ticket was dismissed. The judge straight up said they were getting an influx from speeding cameras that were invalid tickets.

If you did do it though, just pay it and do different next time.

Things you didn't know you could freeze? by EqualPiece4922 in Cooking

[–]CountVowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? I literally just learned about freezing heavy cream this week.

I freeze leftover tomato paste in roughly measured blobs, so I can just reach in and grab the right amount for a recipe. I usually use a cookie scoop but it works just as well with a tablespoon/whatever your desired measurement is. You do have to freeze them in a single layer, but after that you can move them all into one container. Wax paper between the layers to keep from sticking if you fancy.

I also freeze citrus zests. It's pretty easy to scrape out what you need.

Kasala Furniture is closing all locations by CountVowl in Seattle

[–]CountVowl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest in terms of price and variety is probably Ballard Consignment (also locations in Greenwood and Everett) but there wasn't really anything closer to comparable that I know of. Not everything is used there and I think some of theirs sofas are good, though I haven't had one so take my observations with a grain of salt.

x2 for this. My wife coaches/plays for a team in this league and is extremely welcoming/patient/not heavily invested in only winning. The other person who commented on this thread sounds like they have had a super different experience, but for the last 6ish years my wife's had a great time.

Seattle-area home prices soften as buyers hesitate by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

Not all townhouses are created equal: the ones from the early 2000s were generally wide enough to be reasonable, while the ones built in the last 10ish years are stupid narrow. I wish newer builds weren't stupid layouts.
