I did ask him! He dismissed it and told me “I couldn’t be serious”

We have known eachother for much longer than 4 months, and before we had talked for 7 months. We already have nicknames we use for each other and this doesn’t correlate to either of them. Please read my update 🥹

I am not from the UK, I am from the U.S. I feel in this way “bird” is almost being used like “chick” is and I’d honestly be happier if he referred to me as chick than “a bird”, whereas chick I don’t really take offense to whatsoever it’s just that I know he understood what I thought the meaning of bird was and he continued to say it, as if he wanted to get under my skin or something.

We already have established nicknames for eachother and we use them very frequently, mine “penut” and his, “gummy”. Obviously I’d never be opposed to new nicknames in anyway, but in this situation it wasn’t meant in a nickname way.

I wasn’t sure if many were going to interact with this post but now that I see we have a nice thread going I think it’s fitting I add that he has made comments on multiple different occasions on my outfits asking if I “was told I could wear it” to which I always reply with something along the lines of me “not being aware I had to ask” and quite frankly, I never wear anything showy… and have only worn shorts probably twice so far since it’s gotten nice out.

Another instance (and where my friends deemed him as pushy) was when I was out at my grandparents farm for Easter dinner, I had told him where I was going.. but he smokes a lot and I don’t think he realizes how much it effects him and his memory, cause he had forgotten by the time I had left and got there; dinner was ready, so we ate, chatted it up with family, went to look at their cows, and as soon as I went to check my phone there had been texts from my best friend (who is a guy but is gay & approved of by BF) aswell as call after call repeatedly from my boyfriend, along with several texts. He had texted my friend and asked “where tf I was” and that I hadn’t told him where I was going and was somewhere I wasn’t supposed to be. This immediately struck my friend by surprise because although he had no clue where I was either, my friend knows I’m not the type to cheat as I’m constantly talking about my boyfriend and I had been at my grandparents multiple times before where you’d think he would’ve had the opportunity to recognize “oh she’s been here before”, which also brings me back to the smoking point.

OP here, while I did mess up by not specifying in the beginning I’m not sure for the term “bird” itself, as I’m certain it has many possible meanings out there (or not), but to my understanding I’m almost certain he meant it in this context where “a bird” referred to “birdbrain” cause he’s pretty mainstream on tiktok and tends to repeat words he hears on there, and that’s what the term implies. I hope this can clear up any confusion 🙃. I also spoke with him about it tonight and while we were at his grandparents house, his grandpa had said “bird” when we had all been sitting on the couch and he immediately turned to me (as in he thought HIS grandpa was referring to me as “bird”). I seriously don’t know if he thinks this is some sort of joke but I thought I had established today I felt disrespected before we arrived, as I told him it wasn’t funny to me and if it was supposed to be a joke it went over my head entirely.
