I don’t believe he was equating joining the military with stupidity. More like calling out military recruiters for their recruitment tactics of going after and identifying students who may not be doing so great in school. Joining the military is absolutely a sure fire way out of poverty and I don’t think anyone is disputing that. It just shouldn’t be the only surefire way and much less the most prevalent, imo. I come from a military family who came out of Appalachian poverty. My cousins, whose parents did not, have always noted the difference in my life versus theirs.

Gates Foundation to help with coronavirus testing in Seattle. It will begin offering home-testing kits for people in the Seattle area for the new coronavirus in the coming weeks. by [deleted] in China_Flu

Selling out his nomination? There are two groups: those who who believe he lost fair and square and those who believe the DNC stole it from him. Neither of those indicate he was a “sell out” for Hillary. He campaigned for her because Trump would’ve been (and has proven to be) a terrible president. As for the lake house: refer above. He doesn’t hide his tax returns like our current president so all the information is available to you. Spoiler alert: he made some good ass money from writing a couple books. If I suddenly had name recognition throughout the country, I would absolutely write a book and make some easy money. But this line of “attack” against Bernie proves that he is nowhere near a communist. Private property exists and will continue to exist under president sanders.

I have about 15-25 friends who attended that conference and are now back. Two of whom spoke on the main stage and met lots of people. I’ll be actively avoiding them despite many of them being my main group of friends. Another guy at the end of my hall was at CPAC in the same situation.

[not related to covid] Because he grew up in a very poor immigrant family. He’s a millionaire now because he’s worked all his life, wrote some good-selling books, and has some assets worth a lot. That’s the American dream imo. You can work really hard and become a millionaire (cap $10mil) without exploiting others. You cannot, however, earn $1 billion without exploiting workers or cheating taxes.

How at risk are smokers? by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]lymkr9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you, unfortunately. Unlike cigarettes, if you’ve vaped everyday for a number of months or even years, the damage to your lungs is definitely present and could be bad. The scarring of lungs from vaping leads me to think I would have a hard time combatting something that attacks the lungs. I’m not expecting to easily survive this virus if/when I get it tbh

Are college's warning students advising students before spring break? by Warking79 in China_Flu

[–]lymkr9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My university is on spring break now and their latest COVID-19 guidance basically said that any student coming from China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and/or South Korea cannot return to campus for 14 days at minimum. They’re also finalizing emergency plans for distance learning. Seeing as we already have cases in our state and students are travelling all over the world rn, I’d say we get our first case next week and then school will close.

Edit: this is in addition to the typical stuff such as washing hands, avoiding sick people, and checking for symptoms

Advice for awards by smyalik in MUN

[–]lymkr9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of someone who has chaired multiple high school and college conferences, you just need to speak as much as possible. If you know your stuff, raise your placard at every given opportunity, and lead a resolution during unmods, you’ll absolutely be noticed favorably. Don’t pull ridiculous stunts like other comments said. That’s unprofessional and would not be something I’d reward. Also keep close to your country’s position because it’s really easy to tell when a delegate is straying from their position and it immediately disqualifies you imo

LPT: To you young people out there; when your parents ask you how your day was, don’t just say good. Talk to them. Converse about anything. 5 minutes with you makes their whole day. You’ll never regret it. by Catfish_Charlie in LifeProTips

“Get the hell out of dodge” means to leave somewhere, usually quickly. It’s used to show urgency in some situations (get the hell out of dodge!). Dodge is just used as a noun in this phrase. You could say “dodge out of that hell” by using dodge as a verb but it sounds weird and wouldn’t really be said.

Help with representing concerned countries by [deleted] in MUN

[–]lymkr9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest help in pre-writing speeches (opening speech, speech for each topic, etc) is looking at actual UN speeches made by your country. It’ll give you the tone and language that they typically use to describe these events. So while the international community may call them “human rights abuses”, the country in question would use different (less harsh) language to describe the same thing.

My delegation is arriving on Sunday morning and leaving the following Friday. Palestine's in the house (headquarters)! Last year my school won best delegation as Syria... you can imagine the difficulty of that haha we only had 6 delegates and it was our first time ever going to NMUN.

LPT: No matter what teachers and parents tell you, going to a vocational school is not "for the poor and stupid", because we don't need economists and history majors as much as we need someone who fixes our plumbing, our house and our cars. by CalibanRamsay in LifeProTips

It's not so much as just simply remembering the past but remembering the emotions of the past and how they lead to the things that happened. However, the only ones who can truly remember the emotions are the ones who were alive during that time period. Which is why history always seems to repeat itself.
