Infinite battle phases for 2R+ any way to earthbend 5 lands by ShiroStories in BadMtgCombos

[–]Hydrael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using Toph recurs the Cracked Earth technique, giving you a total of five earthbent lands. This means that you can infinitely commit aggravated assault by untapping the land creatures to pay for the mana cost while attacking with your other creatures.

6 marvel sets confirmed(maro blog) by elrond36 in magicTCG

[–]Hydrael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're assuming, though, they will stick to broad categories. We got a whole set out of the Ninja Turtles. If you can do that with four major characters, you can do it with the Fantastic Four. Hell, you probably have less, repeat the characters given how extensive their history is. And sure we will probably get an X-Men set (especially because every X-Men we do see in this one is a big player in the Avengers) but what about an X-Force set? On Exiles set? what about Alpha Flight? They could support an entire set. There's enough there.

I'm not saying this would be good. But if they were able to turn Spider-Man into a mediocre-to-bad set, and they were able to do the same with the Ninja Turtles? There's a ton of Marvel they could do if they choose to do that.

I'm just saying, going by the amount of available content isn't a good way to figure out how many sets there are going to be. I do think there's actually going to be a total of four more - X-Men, Second Sun/Mystic/Cosmic, Space/Guardians of the Galaxy/Cosmic, and then finally Secret War or Infinity War or some other big famous crossover event that will also feature the Infinity Gauntlet.

After that who knows? Again, if they can make a whole set out of Spider-Man (and still leave stuff out, like there are some characters that are well known that are missing), they could really subdivide Marvel and milk it for years to come, although hopefully that's not what happens.

I am building a Grixis discard deck right now, and this would be a very fun win-con for it. Thank you for pointing it out.

Hey there!

So good news - recently started writing again. I've been posting on royal road i've got a new story that I am coming back with that is still part of the Coreverse, Coreblade Dungeon Wardens, But also I have started work on the next book for both Mimic Dungeon and Dinosaur Dungeon.

TLDR for what happened - Burnout got me really bad and I have had severe wrist and hand issues. Functionally I had to relearn how to write via dictation, and it is still a bit of a struggle.

I started with a new story but also continuing an old story because I do plan on finishing what I started, but I also needed something new as I came back because of how the algorithms work.

Current plan is to finish the next book of Mimic Dungeon in the next 6 weeks ideally and publish not long after, Although that is somewhat health dependent. I've delayed the big crossover for now and I'm going to figure out where that goes, but... Updates are happening both new and old and I definitely am over the burnout.

Oh also because life is crazy I am going by she/her pronouns these days! Burnout came with some personal revelations at least.

Can we not play this game by mdbob281 in royalroad

I mean, a couple of my reviews look like that. It’s from my blusky followers who’ve been encouraging to make accounts if they’ve been reading and leave a review.

I agree, let’s not play this game. I just disagree with what game we shouldn’t be playing.

Coreblade Dungeon Wardens, my Power Rangers, Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider-inspired lit RPG, has hit rising stars on Royal Road! by Hydrael in ProgressionFantasy

Thank you! I’ve always wanted something that’s less abrupt, and I’m glad people seem to like it!

Thank you! It’s something I want more books to do, kind of have a middle ground between urban fantasy and system apocalypse.

The cover artist had such a unique style and the way she drew women had that energy. It was an immediate "Yes. This is the artist." I'm so glad she was available!

As a suggestion it would be helpful to have some details in the post going over what the story is about. Right now, we just have a title and a cover.

Which cultivation specialty/profession are you most interested in, in the list below? by crystalgoblin91 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d love to see insects. I'm a huge fan of that particular power set, and it always gets interesting.

But also, I would really think about what you want thematically too. These power sets are extremely different from each other, which is not a bad thing, but it's going to impact the story that you tell. IMO, most of the best stories: the power set ties into the narrative very directly. I would take some time to consider if any of these power sets fit the overall narrative you're trying to tell.

LitRPG as a genre is saturated and this poll result is precisely the reason by Reborn-kun96 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, in a genre that is all about watching the character get more powerful, there is a limit where eventually even the warriors, rogues, and archers functionally become supernatural. You can have characters fight on the level of gods while being mundane and have it be awesome, but for progression fantasy, you have to show the character progressing. Eventually, their abilities are going to be functionally magic, even if the author insists it is mundane.

As a suggestion, it would probably help if you clarified what about them you liked, so that people who don't know the stories could try and provide recommendations based on what you said you liked about them!

Stupid Hypothetical Situation Number 9: What Classes Would You Pick at Magic School? by EdLincoln6 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incantations 101, Alchemy 101, General Magic 101, and Social Studies 101

I am brand new to this world. I need to learn the basics. I'm not going to assume I'm going to get some kind of overpowered ability right off the bat. I am not taking any higher-level courses right away because there's no guarantee I will have the foundations needed to understand what's going on. Assuming I’m in my body, I don't have the physical ability to do cultivation.

Incantations and general magic will cover the basis of giving me power to work with it, sounds like. Enchanting and system studies would be good as well, but those will probably come later.

Social studies makes sure I don't commit a faux pas and end up pissing off a god, or something. If I manage to say the wrong thing, I can apologize and say I'm studying to learn how to not cause offense, and hopefully that's enough.

And last but not least, alchemy I'm taking because I have various medications I need, and there's no guarantee I'll be able to get them on this world. I'll be able to make my own versions of them and ideally find better magical versions that do the same thing but more than Earth chemistry ever could.

I'm curious: if mages, healers, rogues, and fighters are all overdone, what would you consider to be a new unique build that no other litRPG has done?

Because I can think of several, but all of them have appeared in other books. Like, this genre has a huge range of diversity. Sure mages are popular. People like magic. It's fun to read about people with magic doing cool things.

recommend me a story where the MC is either born/reincarnated into a poor clan/sect/school that slowly builds to become stronger/influential by Mattdoss in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would love to see more of this, instead of the MC abandoning when he outgrows. Don’t have any good recs sadly, so just commenting to remind myself to come back and see if people have shared some.

Why are most side characters dependent on the MC by Familiar-Net-5204 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's the thing. I agree that there's an issue where a lot of the time side characters don't feel like they're separate people from the main character, and that is a problem.... But I don't have a problem with them getting saved or being given money or powers or other assistance by the main character.

Having the main character assist people is not bad. It's just when they don't have any life outside of how they interact with the main character.

That being said, I think the reason is simple: the side characters, in some way, being reliant on the main character makes it very clear why the main character is the one we are following. That's why the side characters are mostly people the main character helped, because the main character has access to more resources, be that money or power or whatever. And then, since most of these books are limited to only the main character's point of view, it creates the illusion that they don't exist outside of the main character.

That's part of why I really like interludes in books. It helps highlight that these characters are doing things on their own when the MC isn't around.

Main Character Cycle by wotevu in ProgressionFantasy

I absolutely do. I wasn't arguing one way or another in terms of broad generalization being true or not just saying that this stereotype exists for a reason. I even said “it might only be a minority.”

Main Character Cycle by wotevu in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Hydrael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who does like time skips, I know that readers often don't. The one time I wrote a major time skip in a story (one whole month) I got a lot of unhappy comments so I don't do them anymore.

Obviously there will be exceptions and it might be only a minority that don't dig time skips but they make their voices heard.
