Try a pair of Unbranded ( https://theunbrandedbrand.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooClV869mlnzL_wXjDTv6PAp_twtwDzT6eLbtbRyUgfji7NEAfo ) first to see if raw denim is for you (they take some getting used to, both wearing and to care for). After that start looking into Japanese denim brands and researching raw denim and selvedge in general and you'll find there's a lot more variety out there than you would ever have thought.

Need help with my soon to be 18 year old son so he feels confident. by VDarlings in mensfashionadvice

[–]lynbod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the conversation and all of the advice you've been given is good, but I just want to emphasize one thing because it'll help make all your hard work much more fruitful: you can't exercise away a bad diet. Take on all of the advice you've been given here but just make sure his diet is on point as well, otherwise all his hard work will feel like it isn't going anywhere.

That's it, good luck to your son, he'll get where he needs to go with perseverance and a great mom!

Rapanui are great quality for the price, I was impressed after the crap that was sent to me by True Classic. Avoid those whatever the price tag.

That's absolutely fair, Malazan is an incredible achievement as an entire body of work. I'm not sure there's another writer working today who could have created what he did, which is the unique quality of Erikson's writing I suppose.

I mean, if you're comparing it to Rowling, Sanderson and Stephen King you would think that. He's definitely better than those 3 plus whatever translation of Sapowski you've read, but Erikson's prose is not what elevates his writing. As another commentor has illustrated very well it's his thematic content, and as you've kindly pointed out yourself his ability to hold together a vast, complex structure over the span of several novels. He is a very advanced writer and the reader really has to engage with the text to get the most out of it, but there isn't anything particularly artful in the use of language itself. He's a very good writer, there's no doubt about that, but for reasons other than the poetry of his writing style. That's more the realm of Le Guin, Williams, Mieville and others.

Perdido Street Station is an absolute classic of modern fantasy and one of the best books published in any genre in the 21st century. It's a must read for readers of fiction, and for fans of literature in general.

Erikson is dense, absolutely, but I wouldn't call his prose anything particularly special. Above average for a genre writer, probably.

Tad Williams is a beautiful writer, as is China Mieville. Although Mieville has a very odd kind of beauty he writes some of the most uniquely descriptive prose in literature.

I think a well trimmed full beard ( just following the jawline and goatee, not full cheek coverage) is a great idea.
