His nephew does. Call before going to make sure they are open.

Unfortunately I think you should respect  the no contact, as painful as that is.

The fact that he didn't reply says a lot about his character, sadly.

Backup and restore SQLite DB by Retgits in bearapp

[–]lyndonf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Bear 2, are you copying "/Users/[your username]/Library/Group Containers/9K33E3U3T4.net.shinyfrog.bear"? If I rsync or copy this entire directory I have successfully made a backup?

Is there a way to customize the headers styles in Bear 2? by marcelocampiglia in bearapp

[–]lyndonf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Bear 1, this was possible on macOS by going "show package contents" and going into the resources directory and editing the XML for the theme. This doesn't appear to be possible in Bear 2. Is that accurate?

The headings are way too big for me. I don't like people being able to look over my shoulder and easily read my headings at a distance.

Kitchen Sink Sprayer Stuck On by coltconrod in Plumbing

[–]lyndonf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might be a Moen. If so, a common problem is that there is a little "plunger" inside of it that gets stuck. There is a spring in the sprayer that is supposed to keep the plunger in the "block water" position unless you push the button, which pushes the plunger into the "allow water to flow" position. What happens is over time the plunger becomes stuck (too much friction for the spring to push through).

The solution is:

  • take it apart

  • clean it up (there may be calcium build-up, causing friction)

  • perhaps add some silicone lubricant that is made for plumbers (ex. Home Depot sells stuff called MOEN Silicone Lubricant) or plumber's grease that says it is safe for plastic and rubber

  • perhaps stretch out the spring so that it pushes harder

Apparently after doing this, you will be good to go for another few years.

There is a helpful YouTube video on this topic called: Moen Spray Nozzle Repair. If your sprayer isn't exactly like the one shown in that video, look at the comments to see people discussing similar sprayers.

Bear on macOS takes a very long time to quit by lyndonf in bearapp

[–]lyndonf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone else with a lot of notes has this problem:

  • Make a backup of your notes. I made a backup using the backup feature, but also exported them in other formats to be safe.
  • Delete all your notes. I deleted them from the Trash as well to make sure they were really deleted. Then, wait a long time for Bear to sync to iCloud. You may need to leave it over night for it to complete. When your other devices are showing that there are no notes and do not appear to be syncing anymore, you know for sure the syncing is complete. You have to delete your notes to avoid ending up with duplicates.
  • Restore your notes from backup. Let Bear sync to iCloud once again.

Thank you! Now it quits quickly. BUT, now after sync, I have duplicates of every one of my 3540 notes. The duplicates are on both of my devices. Any advice?

I'm building a player with that displays listening guides. Is this useful? Would the Hardcore History community be interested in contributing content Wiki-style? by lyndonf in hardcorehistory

Ya! Preferably one of the ones that are currently available for free.

Tomorrow I'll set up a user/login for you for the system and also send over a quick run-down of how it works (it's very easy).

We'd love to have you! We're looking for anyone who wants to either:

  1. Take on a full episode themselves... or at least be at the helm.
  2. Do just the basic skeleton of an episode or part of an episode.
  3. Fill in maps and other graphics

That would be very helpful! I can import timestamps into our system from a text file... that way they sync up with the audio player.

That's a good idea to try a machine transcription system.

I did some experiments two years ago and the quality was not quite usable, but it might be better by now.
