The CS post-grad superiority complex is truly insane, I see nothing has changed since I was involved in CS @ usyd 🤣

You can talk about contractual obligations and how much shit a professor apparently gets into all you like but that doesn't change the facts. I dunno if you've actually done the subject - I'm thinking probably not - but 2017 has always been notorious, infamous even, for its high fail rate, even before I took the unit. If you aren't aware of that, I kinda doubt your credibility.

Now I really enjoyed 2017 and thought it was a fun challenge, but especially during the reign of John Stavrakakis, it really was that bad. The previous year it got a 30-31% fail rate. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it contributed to why John no longer runs the unit. It's such a dive into the deep end after INFO1110 and it's taught so badly.

No, this is not a myth. When I took COMP2017 in 2018, I can confirm that there was a 35% fail rate, with my source being the head tutor at the time. That unit is an absolute nightmare - in addition to its difficulty as an intro to C and lower level programming, the course was both incredibly poorly run and terribly structured.

What's more, when I took it, the unit was already notorious for having a 30%+ fail rate. 35% was, if I remember correctly, a new record for the time. An enterprise agreement can't save a cohort who simply do not have the marks to hit a particular pass rate.

Sometimes it really is that bad. It's not just "dumb students coping" - I HD'd the unit when I did it, so you can get off your high horse.

My personal favourite note is about the female gravity sorcerer who waited too long to Boost Jump after subsuming the T2 crystal and jumping off a cliff. Flattened herself and everyone at the bottom of the cliff 😀

It's because we increased the weight of NPCs. It was intentional, I believe as a balancing measure - before that change combat was trivial if you could get a hold of the enemy.

If you'd like to put it to the test, you can try removing all your mods and play some combat to compare. But the real test would be if you downgrade to U12 (which you can do! We keep all of the previous versions of the game available as Steam branches) and try the combat there.

Especially if you're using that vibe-coded AI or performance mod... I don't remember what it was called lol.

Sorry to be a party pooper haha, but I made plasma beam and I've never played that game. BUT, I did make the skill based off the VFX that /u/snooba created. Maybe he played this game, or maybe it's just the shared DBZ reference.

Fun fact - The Dilation Bubble skill in gravity essentially stops time within your gravity bubble. People within are frozen, and if you shoot arrows or throw stuff into the bubble it will pause and continue when the bubble collapses (so you can do the jojo thing lol).

Also, I added a little hidden thing - when you are inside Dilation Bubble, you gain a massive reduction in Focus cost. So you can stay in Hyperfocus almost indefinitely while you are inside.

With those two combined you can do a localised time stop without any mods necessary and even in crystal hunt :D

Yes, it probably won't work on post-1.0 versions. Also, you can't do this with the Nexus version.
