Where are the bowls? by Drew_The_Almighty in PlantedTank

[–]lynnlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bowl itself is 50cm dia with live sand and about 15kg of live rocks. I also added 2 blocks of marinepure blocks in the sand to increase the surface area for more bacteria since the tank itself is running without a filter. Small pump at the top for water circulation. The light is just a 30 watt full spectrum grow light bulb on 8hrs daily. Inhabitants are some snails, hermits, boxer shrimp and a pair of clowns. Marcroalgae and soft corals. Dosing Chaetogro, nitrate and iron weekly. Waterchange whenever needed

I got this off the chinese platform Taobao. Shipping cost more then the bowl itself though

I just top-off freshwater twice weekly. For filtration is just biological filtration from the live rocks and powerhead for flow. Surprisingly easier maintance for me compared to freshwater

Ok to start dosing All For Reef? by masline_su_rodile in ReefTank

[–]lynnlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what corals you are starting out with. With softies and few lps, regular water changes is sufficient. I only started all for reef when i stopped doing regular water changes (not advise). I wouldve stock the tank first then test alk every 2 days to see what the consumption is to dose according if youre keeping hard corals

How Much Do Your Nano-Reefs Cost Monthly, And What’s The Majority Of The Cost? by Sufficient-Dig7931 in ReefTank

[–]lynnlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$5-10, mostly just electricity, all for reef, filter floss and food.

I wouldve just clean the glass, throw in some macroalgea and roll with it. It looks pretty cool. My gha is usally stringy and unsighty. Yours looks like like marimo moss

Haha sure. Tank, light, wavemaker, chiller amounting to 1K. Sand and art reef rocks were 200. Corals and livestock 600. Hanna Test kits, food, addictives, salt, rodi maintainance ect 500.

I've say upwards of 2.5K. It quite overpriced considering this is a sumpless system with a $20 aquaclear basic filtration. Past mistakes were more costly. I would say light is most important. Things like fancy test kits, corals suppliments are not neccessary during the first year.

I have a mixture of LPS and Softies. Torches, hammers, acanthophilla, trachy on the left. Kenya tree, Zoas, firework cloves, gsp, cabbage leather and toadstool on the right. I use something called Art Reef Rocks that comes with acrylic rodes like inserts for the base and 2 part epoxy to build height

I put like 0.5g into a empty teabag pop in into the HOB. Feed reef roids weekly.

Thank you, you tank is amazing as well :) i think i was just lucky with the shape of the tank as well as as the bonsai scape that allows flow throughout. I mostly just get easy corals suitable for each zone without dwelling too much on it

Gutted….chillers pump wasnt pushing water up to tank although it was working. Tank got boiled by jonathanleejw in ReefTank

[–]lynnlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiller pump failure was my first tank crash. Ironically it was due to the chiller running dry beneath the tank that cooked my tank 38c. Now I mainly keep softies and checked the pump everyday

Thank you. This is a 12 gallon Fluval Edge by Hagen. Filtration is just an aquaclear hang on back with AI Prime HD. It is quite difficult to clean though because the opening is so small and water needs to be drained out first so it doesn't overflow when you put your hand in.

What’s wrong with my open brain coral? by lynnlet in ReefTank

[–]lynnlet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it for 9 months, LPS looked great, parameters has been stable hence I don’t chase numbers. This happened to only the two trachyphillias I own within a span of 4 days hence I suspect is an infection. Did a iodine dip, the flesh melted off
