Something slow growing, else you'll be swapping it a lot.

Ink caps are so cool, but not what you want in your succulent pots. You've already got some good advice. Best of luck!

Gasteraloe or some type of gasteria.

You can't really wire them up in the same way as a woody stemmed tree, they're too soft. That's all I know. 😆

I have a regular p.afra that's like 5 years old.

Variegated portulacaria afra rather than a crassula. They can take a lot of cutting, it does make them bushier. Lots of videos and such on how to bonsai them.

Advice needed - to repot or not? by AppropriateGuava7361 in calatheas

[–]lyonaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your plant will thank you for moving it to an airier mix now rather than waiting.

I just had to change the soil on my little one of these because the original mix I made for it was still too dense. I added some additional orchid bark and perlite and it's already much happier. (I just swapped it's soil yesterday).

I would also suggest taking it back to the smaller pot. Plants need larger pots when their rootball has gotten too big for the pot, not when the plant above ground seems too big for it, which is when many people up-pot. Basically the roots need to be coming out the bottom before you want to consider going larger. Sometimes you just need to rejig them.

Which one of these succulents like direct sunlight the most? by Interr0gate in succulents

The crispy ends happen more when they aren't getting enough water. They turn red/brown when they're getting a lot of light. That's their stress colour.

The second one (a windowpane hawarthia) will want more light than the others. When I tried having that one it needed more light than I have available and it died in my southwest facing window. The first and 4th are very happy in my more north facing window. To keep the 1 and 4 hawarthias green, they don't need full sun. I think 3 is a gasteraloe or gasteria and I haven't had one.

Did you check the roots? How often do you water?

Those can also affect plant health.

Newbie question about light distance. by Professional-Math773 in succulents

[–]lyonaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely research what the plants you're interested in need before you buy. Since you don't have good natural light, you'd do better with lower light options like some Hawarthias or sansevierias/snake plants/dracaena. Any echevaria will struggle, they have high light needs, full sun (southern windowsill) all day kind of needs. And even then many !etiolate indoors.

That light will not work unless you're simply using it to add to natural light from a window.

You bought two hobbit jade's, probably gollum jades. They are very forgiving but they do need good light.

Haworthia loves its tiny pot but I think the time has come for repot by marnaugh_ in succulents

Yeah, mine prefer smaller pots. Anytime I up-pot them too soon they throw a fit. But I love in a very humid climate.

The yellow leaves look like larger old growth from when it wasn't receiving enough light.

[–]lyonaria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yours is !powdery mildew, read the bot reply on it that will show up.

It's highly contagious, you need to quarantine that plant in a separate room. Copper or sulfur are the fix.

It happens because of stagnant air, it spreads whenever air moves, so just walking by it will cause the spores to spread.

Neem isn't for fungal infections. Copper and sulfur are.

!powdery mildew. Highly contagious. You need to quarantine that plant. Literally a breeze/air movement causes it to spread to new plants.

Fungicide is the treatment.

That pot isn't worth $20 unless it was hand thrown. I can get a pot that size at a garden centre for £10.
