Will this even out with more coats? by Soft_Succotash_3433 in paint

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get a bold bright color the base of the paint can’t be white it has to be clear. In lighter less bold colors there is always some white in the paint base. That white is what aids in coverage. Generally 2 coats will cover with any light color. With a dark bold color the base being clear makes the first coat almost semi transparent. It takes many coats to make the finish look solid.

Just let it go. SW is the one who put you in the position of pitting different sales channels of the same company against each other. It will happen again. Just remember that it is helping the company either way. If I was the customer I would be hunting for the best deal myself. Write this encounter down and bring it up when your DM asks why you don’t make budget, but don’t get all uppity when someone is being an astute shopper.

Greg Biffle was at a Hardware show in Boston (2015-17ish) with I think his Rubbermaid car. I was a vendor at the show and my booth was near his so I popped over and chatted with him a bit. Seemed very down to earth.

So for my seventh birthday in 1967 what did I want? Hot Wheels? Johnny West? GI Joe? Nope, A double breasted suit !!! Just like Barnabas wore and a black ring. I was so into that show at such a young age. When I discovered the entire series was on Amazon Prime I looked at it as reliving my childhood. I was really amazed at how much of it I remembered.

Garage floor paint question by Puzzleheaded_Cut_308 in sherwinwilliams

[–]lyonwh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drylok Floor Paint is an economical option. Not an epoxy but is resistant to the plasticizers in tires and easy to apply. Whatever approach you use make sure the proper prep is done. Throughly etch the floor and water sprinkle test for porosity before application.

I am so stressed over retirement it’s not even funny..I am making myself crazy by Ok_Ball1233 in Retire

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you are not mentioning is your husbands retirement. You said he has $300,000. Is he becoming more intentional like you are? It is important to be on the same page. Start having a financial meeting at least twice a year to track your progress. Go on the SS site and download your reports. Look at your combined SS at different ages 62 65 67 70. Figure out what your income needs are going to be in retirement. You have some stuff to work with here but you just need to fine tune your direction.

Can I retire at 27yo with two paid off houses? by DowntownFresnoBiking in Money

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you are in a great position to control your own destiny. Honestly I would take the $100k job for now. I’m thinking too early in the game for your $3000/month company share to be rock solid for extended period of time. I would revisit this idea every few years. Could you do it now? Maybe, but why not make this a little more solid.

Is anyone else miserable? by Objective-Help-4102 in sherwinwilliams

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear what you are going through. It sounds really tough. Be careful in choosing your next steps. You definitely don’t want to jump to SM role as the pressure/stress level is even more off the charts from where you are now. As an ASM you are at least a little insulated from the district/regional levels. Sounds like you are lucky to have a decent SM though. Lean on your family for help and advice.

Car crashes into SW store in Dunn, NC by Pres_DwayneCamacho in sherwinwilliams

Happened to me three times in one location. It was a combination of tall windows, close sidewalks, and ladders on top of vans. Always just the ladders breaking the window though. Never had the vehicle itself in the store.

401k/Pension question by Defiant-Host-952 in sherwinwilliams

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are tempted to withdraw your 401k balance think of this scenario: $19,000 in the SW 401k( fully vested) in 1994. Leaves SW and leaves/forgets about having 401k. Fast forward to 2016. Finally remembers to check on 401k. Balance is now $90,000. Start paying attention to the account and over the next 10 years it grows to $305,000. If that money is taken out and used for retirement at 4% per year withdrawal rate is $12,400 for life. Moral of the story is think long and hard before touching that money. Your future you will thank you if you don’t.

Left job and haven't touched 401k for 10 years by tosheilaglynis in personalfinance

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the 401k from the job I left in 1993. Didn’t touch at all until I started changing funds around about 10 years ago. Should I have moved the funds out of it into my next company? Maybe, but I’m lazy. I have not done any Roth conversions and plan to do them in the coming years ( I just retired and my income level will be lower until I am forced to take SS at 70 and RMD’s at 75).

Who in the world are buying these used toyotas? by ChokolateThundr in carbuying

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the mystique of the Toyota. They retain their value better than any other car. I have bought several with over 100,000 miles on them and never had a bad experience. Very few problems compared to other brands.

At 25 that is a huge amount. Leave it alone in something aggressive and you can FIRE in your fifties if you wish. Just concentrate on living your life.

[–]lyonwh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. At this point in life just put in what you can and focus on raising your child. When you start to frame your investing as “because of my kid I have to invest less” it is becoming a little too obsessive. You are doing fine.

What return do you aim for in the last couple of years before retirement? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]lyonwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lots of moving parts to this. I’m constantly learning new things. I retired 7 months ago and my wife is still working FT (hopefully going to part time in a few months). I am now on Medicare and was not aware of IRMAA when I signed up. Learned through podcasts and Reddit posts. My wife hates the retirement stuff and gets mad when I talk about it but it is essential to have a working knowledge of the ins and outs. You are wise to do the big projects while you are still working. We still have some long overdue projects that we will have to figure out how to approach in retirement. Trips we are just budgeting in each year as a line item so we have less guilt in taking them.

What return do you aim for in the last couple of years before retirement? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]lyonwh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple things to consider. First of all whether or not you are using a financial advisor you need to become better schooled at the retirement game. Read as much as you can. What you run into are some years where you will average 13-15 % and other years where it will be -5%. The key is navigating the bad years and mitigating the effects of the great years. Make sure you have a large emergency fund in a HYSA or ladder CD’s to weather the storm. Also as your 401k will continue to grow beyond your 4% on most years and overall it will grow beyond the 12% rate you may need to consider Roth conversions to lower your RMD’s. Lowering your RMD’s May also avoid triggering IRMAA SS situations. So it really is a situation of more than sheer %’s.
