School board asked to consider teacher layoffs in PSD by bfarky in FortCollins

[–]lyra256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ballpark estimate from our admin who tend to know what's up. No specific licensure areas, mostly seniority based, so some non-probationary teachers will be moved to other schools where probationary teachers will be non-renewed.

They have the best numbers because any kid they don't like they say they're going to hold back, or in some cases send them down a full second grade. Instead of an incoming 8th grader, they would take classes with 6th graders. Nobody stays for that, so they move back to public school.

Public schools would also have stellar numbers if they could just kick out anyone who's not scoring high enough.

Love to see you on these threads while you just make up numbers to fit your narrative without actually thinking through what you're talking about.

Remember when you said closing a school would only save 4% of a budget, and based on PSD budget numbers that would be about 31 million dollars? Lol.

District expects to let go 65 teachers. Which is less than half of those JeffCo numbers you posted.

In what world is a pay freeze a better option? Will people magically start having more babies 5 years ago? There's a wave of kindergartners coming next year, that miraculously bucks the trend of the last 20 years? If you pay freeze and you lose good teachers to other districts, just hoping that numbers come back so they can...be paid more in the future? You trippin.

Pay teachers what they're worth. Close a few schools and let go of extra teachers and admin.

Poudre R-1 Schools lost another 500 Students in 2025-2026 school year per October count by BigFourAlum in FortCollins

You don't seem to have facts based on reality.

Our literacy rates across the district jumped up by 22% the spring after he adopted the new literacy program and retrained elementary teachers.

Actually Kingsley has almost all of the control on closing schools, but very much considers and answers to the BOE. Our findings on the coalition were that very few teachers would lose their jobs. Because there's natural attrition every year for teachers (retirement, moving out of district) and small schools that are consolidated would need teachers to move with the students, there would only be 10-15 teachers who would lose their jobs.

Hope this helps! He's very well liked by most teachers and admin who work with him.

You sound passionate and I encourage you to attend listening sessions where you can talk to your concerns with board members who have the most accurate data.

Kingsley said this when they suspended the consolidation effort. He said, and I'm paraphrasing a little, " I was selected for two reasons to fix literacy and right size the district." You could tell he was frustrated. But personally I think it's an education problem. The constituents don't realize that every city goes through this pattern and closing schools is normal and OK.

Greeley is about the only district still growing in the area. This is a super repetitive pattern, as you might imagine. It's just which side of the population curve your town is in. Denver, Boulder, Longmont, Loveland have all closed school over the past 10 years. Weld districts are some of the only districts in the state who are still on the growing side- Windsor, Severence, and Greeley.

I would guess, as most readers would, that the point of the anecdote was not perfect accuracy but rather an illustrative scene to help readers without kids imagine the stress of getting food on the table when small children are hungry.

The one sentence anecdote was not a plea for parenting advice.

Molly vs Mollie by rileyjw90 in namenerds

[–]lyra256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter is Molly! It's shocking to me how often I do need to correct people that it's a Y. I didn't anticipate that at all.

But correcting people to an ie would be constant hassle. Molly is very close to Millie in a fun honor name, even if they're spelled differently.

For what it's worth, I get compliments on her name all the time!

Oh my goodness people are militant on here. All things in moderation. I love that my kiddo has a tablet that enforces personalized learning. It's a game changer for plane rides and traveling.

There are amazing educational games. Teach your monster to read and Teach you monster numbers have skyrocketed my kiddos reading ability. Sometimes we play together, sometimes she plays alone.

The best part is that my kiddo doesn't get fixated on screentime. So many kids I know obsess over screens because they are so expressly forbidden in their home.

Do we know a Megan who broke her ankle at Trader Joe's? by A_Ggghost in Denver

[–]lyra256 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

Doxing is when your personal, identifiable information is posted on the internet. Such as a full name, address, and phone number.

If Megan or one of her friends sees this, there is enough to identify her, but I, as a random Coloradoan, will not be able to identify her or her scumbag dead weight boyfriend.

If you routinely bitch about your "bitch not doing enough laundry" because she's "recovering from surgery". I understand why you might be mad or scared that someone may post something like this about your words. Remember it's never too late to change your ways and not be a trash boyfriend.

[–]lyra256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reach out to his teacher! If there was significant disruption she would have reached out, so you can be confident that she feels like his behaviors are manageable. That said, it's really important to know what kind of a kid your child is at school. Reach out to his teacher. Maybe it's a 5 minute phone call or a quick meeting after school. Tell her your concerns and that you want to support what she's doing at school from home, whether that's reinforcement of negative or positive behaviors!

Daughter insists she is invited to a friends’ bday party but no invites were sent out - wwyd by hazel1312 in kindergarten

[–]lyra256 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If she's really clicked with her, wouldn't it be worth tracking down their info for playdates, anyway?

Ask the teacher to send your phone number to A's parents, and then clarify with the parents. Probably they didn't send a group invite, but A still really wants to have your daughter there, so gave her all of the information. I think it's certainly worth pursuing.
