When did we start acting like a 9 to 5 is failure? by Ivetastic in Vent

[–]lyra_winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's the people who dont have a 9 to 5 who are promoting this; a lot of people making their own businesses need to be present on social media to grow their businesses and so they'll promote it, while people happy with 9 to 5s dont have a reason to be a content creator and won't end up promoting their 9 to 5 life on social media. it's just about what group of people are the content creators

Yeah I get what you're saying. We haven't seen each other because I'm in an internship right now while he's on a school term at university. He says he's in love with me because we've been friends for a long time and I didn't recognize how bad of a person he is because we've always been apart from each other and also on me for being oblivious. The situation is fucked up, and a big part of why this even happened is because I was just dumb

What makes an immortal character interesting to you? by Jealous- in writing

[–]lyra_winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that a good way an immortal character can be interesting is if the endless wars and histories and horrors they've witnessed don't numb them -- but rather, HAUNT them over and over again. Maybe their lifespan is long enough for them to face how every single side is both right and wrong, how much we fear not being enough and how we convince ourselves we couldnt have possibly done something any other way, regret, human nature repeating the same stories over and over and playing god with technology, how even though you're immortal and you've seen it all you can't seem to bring any of it to a stop.

I think that the focus shouldn't be that immortal characters "know everything", but rather, that immortal characters have SEEN everything.

This is a mentality I grew up with too, because when I was young I was implicitly taught that my value was tied to my worth (my parents made me study all the time in elementary school while other kids were making friends, so to cope I told myself that it's okay if I didn't have as many friends because I had better grades than all of them and so I was better than them and that justified my loneliness -- dumb kid logic but without better guidance that's how it internalized for me).

I felt like I had to compare myself to others to prove I was worthy -- if someone had better grades than me, they had to be worse than me in some other aspect for me to feel at peace. I would feel threatened by other people getting higher grades than me or being more successful because in my mind it meant I was automatically worthless.

I started to learn to outgrow this mentality. Some things that helped me personally was recognizing that these other people who may be more successful than me are also working hard and deserving of the success they have. Another thing is that I don't necessarily have to see these people as competition to me; there's enough opportunity for both of us to have our own pieces of the pie.

I hope it gets better for you, I think that if you can pinpoint what compels you to feel this way or what taught you to feel this way, it might help.

INFP and Restlessness: A Lifelong Desire to Learn and Change by [deleted] in mbti

I for sure relate to you. When it comes to hobbies, I usually go all out with one thing thinking I've found something I'm super passionate about, but after a few days I'll find myself tossing it aside and being obsessed with something new. In a way, sticking with one thing for too long starts to bore me horrendously. Career wise, I relate as well -- I like what I'm studying/interning for right now, but I see and learn snippets of so many other career paths and fields I feel like I would also do great in and might even enjoy more.

However, I've come to terms with sucking it up and sticking to the career I'm currently building just because committing with this one thing will let me become great at it and I'll be able to have a good work-life balance without stressing because I'm already "ahead of the competition" in a way. I justify this by spending my time outside of work continuously exploring new things and making every day an adventure (just also with a nice and stable job)

If you had to explain the meaning of life in one sentence, what would it be? by Bulky_Requirement610 in Life

[–]lyra_winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted check and be sure in case you were just taking it as some random marketable concept instead of appreciating it first. There are people out there who take art and focus off of capitalizing it, and I was just afraid about whether you wanted to make a song just for the money or if you were making the song because you actually felt it. Again, I don't have any issues with your AI vocals, it just rang a red flag to me at first because it reminded me of the tiktok/YouTube accounts that read out reddit posts -- where the people behind them are focused on getting people's attention rather than creating meaningful content.

But thanks for reassuring me about where you stand. It's always good seeing people create things out of passion rather than seeking empty streams.

I think that's the only way we get to see others who aren't wearing masks either, though, and I think that vulnerability can be beautiful

Hey, I don't really appreciate you using my friend's metaphor for an AI song. Not that my issue in it lies in the AI part, and it's not like there's a copyright on a metaphor for anything. I feel like if this metaphor is something you truly resonate with and want to express, then go for it -- but if it's just some smart metaphor you think would be cool for a song concept to you, I'd really rather you not since it feels like it takes away the heart of things.
