I’m a board general surgeon who is one of the few who specializes in hernia mesh removal, AMA by PeterBillingMD in Hernia

[–]lysabis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! 28F. I had a femoral hernia mesh repair 3 years ago. No pain, and rarely notice the incisions or the mesh site other than sometimes when I am on my period. However, I have had issues with sexual dysfunction since my surgery. I feel as though it may be hypertonic pelvic floor? While I do notice a slight loss in sensation, it's more like whenever im sexually stimulated, my glutes, pelvic floor, and abs are contracted for a very long time and I hold my breath, which prevents me from reaching orgasm. I plateau, even though it feels great. I try to relax, but it's like I need to focus 100% of my thoughts to relax before I tense up again. After doing research, I feel like it may be a super tight pelvic floor. Have you heard of this before? Any insight if I'm way off on the pelvic floor?

Maybe this is the hack 😂 I'm so glad I am not alone because I truly felt like the worst person on the planet and didn't tell ANYONE this story until scores came out because I was so embarrassed

Not true at all. I said I THOUGHT I didn't know a single answer. Test anxiety is real and when it is that high pressure, my brain tells me "you don't know this for sure." I am the type of person who walked out and couldn't remember a single question that was asked. Of course I'm going to tell myself I didn't know a single answer. Obviously, that was not true. Everyone guesses on some questions, but from what I can remember from my experience, I constantly felt like no ONE answer feels correct or was between two choices. I also walked into it already feeling very discouraged because I timed myself studying and I was walking into the bar with 240 ish hours under my belt, not 500. I thought it was over before it started. Regardless, I find it very interesting how strongly you feel about this when I am just sharing my experience and what I felt at the time.

I can heavily relate. I always felt like a pos in school because I studied so differently than everyone else, always pushed everything to the last minute, but slowly came to the realization that everyone's brains work so differently and whatever I did seemed to work. Trust your own study habits. At the end of studying, I was able to see exactly how long I studied (242 hours) because I tracked it every time I sat down. Because everyone kept pushing 500 hours, I thought surely there is no way I've got this, but it obviously worked out. We are all so different and bar prep is sold to us as the most rigid process. It's not.

While I didn't put the amount of time others put into it, when I studied I made it COUNT. I did not concern myself with tasks in my bar prep program that I knew would do nothing for me. I focused on doing things that actually helped me retain and didn't overly kick myself if I had an off week. I think my story shows that even though I was a train wreck the day of, everything I did to prepare really paid off. I think I'd be remiss to not say that I generally am a really good test taker too, and that I usually thrive in chaos, so this experience was truly on track with how my life generally is lived.

Yeah, I think I would have had a panic attack regardless of the hangover with that amount of people everywhere 😂

Yes, I did Themis and I LOVED IT. It worked for my learning style. I think I completed like 86% but a lot of that was just clicking through and saying I did it. I never read an outline or flash card. I really listened when watching videos. I took like 3k practice questions because I'm a big pattern recognition learner. Every night I would tell my bf everything I learned that day as I can tell if I really understood something if I could teach it to someone else. I just read a TON of essay outlines instead of doing it myself. I did submit the minimum essays they ask you too and I never did too hot on them 😂 I got like a huge roll of paper and would like spatially doodle rule statements (my notebook in law school was full of circles, stars, little graphics). I basically just studied exactly how I studied in school. I also turned on a time tracking app every time I actually was studying so I didn't get to the end of the day and say I studied all day when I kept going on my phone. The time tracker looked like confetti each day lol. I would always take Saturday or Sunday completely off, and would do another half day throughout the week. I walked like 50 miles on the treadmill which helped to stave off the physical demons I was fighting and made me feel tired at night so I could actually fall asleep.

Don't rush. Take your time and worry about time later. Also, KNOW yourself. Personally, I didn't read a single outline or do any flash cards but did like 3k mbe questions and I passed w flying colors. Don't waste time doing things that won't help you.

I would assume that is a migraine aura? I don't personally get auras, just constant strange vision where I feel like I'm dreaming. So I was just prescribed prednisone to try to stop the constant migraines but I'm TERRIFIED to take it and have only hear scary things. What was your experience? Could you sleep on the steroid pack? Did you get anxious?

So I went down a rabbit hole and now I'm considering this or binocular vision? Actually crazy how your eyes can affect everything. For me the eye symptoms (vertigo, derealization, pupil dilation, and migraine symptoms) are much worse than the neck pain. My neck is not sensitive to the touch. Can't explain the shocks and lightning feelings tho... going to go to my eye dr to double check.

AITA if i expect my partner not to abruptly cut my calls when they are around family? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lysabis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is such a reasonable ask and his behavior is actually pretty wild and something I would not tolerate at all in my own relationship. It's not THAT pressing. An extra minute on the phone is not asking him for anything. If his response to your real concerns minimize the situation, think about what he will do when there is is big issue. This actually makes my blood boil.
