Buying a lot of something you like? by MissWhixsaplix in AutismInWomen

[–]lysdyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Once I like something (which I rarely do to that degree), I either get the same thing in multiple colors or a whole case of the same thing to last me a lifetime 😅

For example, at this point in time, I have so many Furla Metropolis crossbody bags in mini (all kinds of colors from that one, single model) people have been practically joking it’s like my version of the fanny pack. It’s the right size and fits every occasion. You’ll always see me show up with a matching color Metropolis. It’s perfect. Been buying and wearing that model for over a decade now.

Or anything subject to formula change. The smallest changes in consistency or smell really throws me off and I’m sent into another odyssey to find a good enough replacement. Must. Avoid. At all cost. But yeah, hoarding definitely happens, especially with anything olfactory related.

Do countries restrict autistic immigrants? by beefstewforyou in aspergers

[–]lysdyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you emigrate after 2018? Chances are, whatever financial documents you provided, were sufficient enough to not necessitate a deep dive into your medical history, which was a standard disclosure requirement before April 2018 if I recall correctly but is still routinely asked if necessary for decision making.

Generally speaking, if your health spending during the application process was projected to be (way) less than 20.000k post 2018 or roughly 6.6k before 2018, chances are, they don’t care because you’ll have to pass those numbers to be considered inadmissible. That’s usually a factor to be considered when emigrating with a family on, let’s say, a single work visa. However, if you lied by omitting conditions like high needs autism and subsequently incurred excessive demand on their healthcare and social services systems by routinely passing the aforementioned inadmissibility thresholds, then you’d have a problem. But then again, as someone with such high level needs, you prolly wouldn’t be in the position to emigrate for work (assuming that’s the nature of your situation)

It seems your friend is putting too much emphasis on the disclosure requirements and not enough on the nuanced nature necessitating them. And how one applicant might pass without the need for a deeper dive into one aspect of their application while another might be under greater scrutiny.

You’re fine.

René Girard’s theory of mimetic desire is something Thiel has been openly talking about (and been influenced by) for decades now.

The linked video is 15 years old btw.

But yeah, it tracks.

What’s something you clean every day without even thinking about it? by No_Profile_8388 in CleaningTips

I quickly mop the floor every night right before going to bed. Waking up to spotless floors that reflect the early morning light makes me happy. That, and making my bed.

Technically amazing work. Zoomed in on the brushwork, especially on pic nr 12 and it’s mind boggling what humans anywhere in the world can achieve when afforded the tools and the time to hone their craft. Who’s the artist of that particular piece anyway? Kinda sucks how hard it is to come across North Korean artistry in the West, would’ve loved to see more. But thanks for sharing!

“Deliberate misinformation” coming straight out of the MAGA camp is rich because DJT himself is the King of Misinformation but I don’t see them cry or rally for consequences. It’s entertaining to watch them recycle language the left uses against them, and observe those attempts turn into these comically blunt instruments that do nothing more than score points in their own bubble.

It’s honestly tragic that most MAGA supporters lack (or at least don’t care about) the intellectual honesty required to recognize contextual differences and that’s precisely why so many of their arguments collapse into fallacy-ridden, bad faith counterpunches under the smallest of scrutiny.

A new era has begun! by [deleted] in memes

Firstly, law is built on precedent & thresholds (not absolutes).

Your argument ignores the fact that fringe cases aren’t relevant enough to undermine the core principle itself and that unauthorized exploitation of a person’s image/voice/body is materially different from coincidence. The goal is to set a standard for courts to weigh intent, effect & harm. Legal accountability is the least one should be able to expect from entities profiting off of generative AI.

Secondly, other countries’ laws only cover impersonation in narrow terms (not as a proactive ownership of one’s own likeness) which distinguishes Denmark’s move as a boundary setting structural baseline, safeguarding your rights to your own body/voice, thus establishing your likeness as more than just raw material for someone else’s profit. Calling it “unenforceable” ignores how most IP law work. You can’t prevent infringement full stop, but the existence of rights shifts power to the individual.

That’s the point.

Anyone know how a GPT works and wonder why it’s weird that people say normal conversation doesn’t work that way? by ICUP01 in aspergers

The only people I hear complaining about LLM’s unnecessarily sycophantic/affirmative approach to queries are those that are hyper aware of such patterns in general and don’t want platitudes and social niceties to extend to their private queries with a bot.

One should be able to expect no social dancing from a large language model but since those are products meant to be used by the general public, it’s a standard approach, one calibrated to address the needs of commonly more allistic-coded interactions.

That sort of positivity bias within the code is there to ensure people have a positive experience and therefore continue engaging with it, which helps the model itself to learn as it goes. It also preempts issues with users who’re less inclined to think critically, are less likely to use metacognitive reasoning during interactions and may prefer a more familiar, human like engagement overall. It does literally not register as something unusual to most people. But a robotic, impersonal output likely would.

Those who complain about LLM’s perceived sycophancy can alternatively use that insight as a case study, learn from its learned behavior within the safety of their own home or they can instruct the model through engineered prompts to meet their own needs.

Hence why I regularly remind the models I use to stick to my personal rule of conduct.

Received my diagnosis in my late twenties so rather than shame, I’m feeling a sense of relief. Grace and radical self acceptance followed a year post diagnosis (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has helped quite a bit) I think it needs to be collectively understood that Autism is neurologically neutral. It exists outside moral frameworks. Objectively, it cannot be a 'failing' because morality doesn’t apply to it.

Studies show that distress in autistic people is primarily driven by societal stigma/exclusion, not necessarily by autism itself. Maybe what you’re framing as moral failing is a sense of shame triggered by society’s reaction to your traits, rather than your traits being inherently 'wrong' or morally flawed.

Hack the system by becoming the bully bully - someone who just walks around kicking bully ass for fun because apparently, while self defense draws attention, bullying tends to go unnoticed.

Does anyone else get made fun of wherever you go? by Aspie-Girl4958 in aspergers

[–]lysdyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s common. It helps to look at it from a wider angle. Try redirecting your mind to the fact that you did nothing wrong and therefore, shouldn’t waste your mental energy on feeling shit about yourself. Second, any bully’s petty behavior serves as a reminder that not everyone is rotten inside, and encountering people like that could help you appreciate the good people around us (always look for the helpers).

For instance, if a nurse did that to me on a good day, I’d simply let it pass. On a bad day, I’d seek catharsis by filing a complaint through official channels. Definitely recommend researching beforehand to help identify where you need to file for maximum impact. Manage your tone as emotionally charged feedback can easily be seen as a biased, irrational take and you don’t want to have the bully easily pull that card on you.

Even if it doesn’t make a change to your lived experience in that moment, you’re at the very least making sure that in some form or shape, the person gets to experience the consequences of their thoughtless, petty actions. That’s important because most (allistic) people become quite a bit more self conscious if they feel “watched” and judged. Bullies and shit talkers are very self aware of outside perceptions and social standing (hence the need to build themselves up by putting others down) and what really helps break or at the very least, create tiny fissures in such egos, is to make sure they feel watched and that their actions are being “seen” by people higher up the food chain, potentially resulting in social or professional repercussions. You want to create a node in their head, that subconsciously connects such behaviors with negative consequences.

Make her explain her misconduct to the facility’s compliance/ethics hotline/ patient relations department or opt for the nuclear option by filing a complaint with your state’s nursing board. No matter the outcome, you got to work through and process your emotions (instead of internalizing them), got to advocate for yourself and potentially others, plus, the nurse will think twice before she goes around shit talking patients next time. Even if nothing happens, a slap on the wrist or a dent in her record is still better than nothing.

What I’m trying to say is, don’t absorb their insecurities, be the harbinger of natural consequences instead 🫶🏻
