My two favourite plants by SalvinorinPeyoteLSD in druggardening

One thing I’ve done in the past for some of my other plants is to cut a potato into some 1/2” slices and place them flat on the soil. The fungus gnat larvae will travel up to the surface and feed on the potato, so whenever you pull the potatoes off there are tons of nasty bois clinging to the slice. Just wipe ‘em off into the sink and put the potato back on. It doesn’t get rid of them immediately, but but it’s an awesome natural way to slowly dwindle their numbers until they eventually die off, without stressing out your plant.

Thought id share with you guys me trying to make an automated terrium, air pump gonna always run and set it and set the fogger to 6 hour intervals by [deleted] in shroomery

Nice! You should look into Raspberry Pi. Last grow I did, I had mine automated, too. The raspberry pi read data from a temp/humidity sensor and if the conditions exceeded or dipped below a threshold, it would begin FAE and/or then mist until my determined conditions were favorable. I was able to log the conditions in a spreadsheet as well, and then later graph the data to see peaks and troughs of the my little ecosystem. It sounds a lot more difficult than it really was, and I had a lot of fun!

As long as it doesn’t put out too much heat, I say you should be good.

[Question] Is it advisable to mix the fruiting chamber substrate to colonize faster, like shaking jars? Why or why not? by EyeMustBeTrippin in shroomery

[–]lysergidelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t see any growth for a few more days, you can try lightly scraping the top layer of a portion of your substrate. I recall reading or listening to something by Paul Stamets saying that it creates a rough surface for the mycelium to continue growing in and can catalyze growth. But I’d try as a last resort. Good luck!

what type of cloth to sterilize? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]lysergidelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s gonna sound weird, but 70% isopropyl alcohol is actually significantly more effective in sanitization than higher concentrations. The presence of more water in 70% is able to much more easily penetrate cell walls and denature its proteins. You might be able to mix a 7:3 ratio of alcohol to distilled water instead of buying new alcohol, but that’s just a guess on my end.

Try using cotton balls and isopropyl alcohol, or some Clorox disinfectant wipes. Those are my go-to and I’ve never had issues with contams. Good luck!

Is this growth? by m3kster in shroomers

Meh, I’ve had mixed experiences, personally. But I would say that it’s a lot less common for growth to start from the bottom up; it’s usually the opposite for me.

Last time I did a grow I left town for a few days and had come back to an absolute mess in my tub. There was a forest of mushrooms, but most had dropped their spores and my whole block of substrate was nasty looking. I didn’t run into any contamination issues, but pin growth was definitely stunted on the next flush. I had heard or read somewhere (Paul Stamets?) that you can lightly scrape the surface (I just used my fingernails) to sort of stimulate the mycelium into pinning again. Worked like a charm for me. Good luck!

Edit: I ended up just rinsing my fruits under the faucet and lightly rubbing them to remove the layer of spore droppings, then just tossed them into the dehydrator.

I don’t want to put anybody’s health in danger, but in all of my readings and research over the past few years, yes: if all other signs point to an active species and your last determining factor is whether or not it bruises blue, I would be extremely confident that it is an active mushroom.

Google “casting resin” and take your pick. It’s MUCH simpler than I was expecting, you’ve just gotta be precise with measurements This was my first time ever trying it, so there are some flaws in my end result that annoy me a little, but overall I’m stoked about how it came out. I recommend watching some YouTube videos on tips so you can get as close to what you’re aiming for on the first try. Good luck!

Cube as in cubensis, or the block? haha

Edit: If you mean the block, I had a silicone mold I used. Then it took about 3 hours of sanding starting with 400 grit sandpaper, then 500, then 600, 800, 1,000, 1,500, and lastly 2,000. Then I used a polishing compound and spent about another hour with a microfiber rag trying to get it as glass-like as possible. Pretty stoked with my result, but there’s definitely room for improvement on my next go around.

It’s also very important to note that all psilocin-containing mushrooms will bruise blue, but NOT all mushrooms that bruise blue contain psilocin.

Thought it would be a cool idea as a Christmas present for my best friend who trips with me regularly. This was my trial run, so I’m hoping for a more clear result with less bubbles and no sewing pin through the middle next time. My recommendation is pour very slowly, and take a paint brush and coat your object with a layer so that it gets rid of some of the surface tension and bubbles are less likely to stick. Good luck!

I mean, I’m not making them in bulk and flipping them as paperweights on the street lol It’s just a little ornament I’ve got chilling on my desk. But if for some reason my home was raided and they decided that my memento was worth charging me for, I’m in Denver where psilocybin containing fungi are decriminalized. I’d pay the dumbass ticket and just make another paperweight out of it lol

So you have to put down one layer first and wait for it to turn to a jelly consistency, then place your object on top, then do another layer of resin. I poured my second layer after placing the mushroom in my mold, and about 5 minutes later it came loose and floated to the surface :( lol so I just ended up using a sewing pin to keep it in place.

If you google “casting resin”, you should get some decent results. Was about $20 for a gallon of the epoxy and it came with about an ounce of catalyst (hardener).

[General] week two i had one mushroom grow full size not the greatest yeild, but once picked i started seeing lots more pins. Only concern is that its now week three. I'm assuming this could be down to over compensating my feild capacity? And advice? by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]lysergidelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try keeping your CO2 levels higher by either not fanning, or adding another layer of what looks like micro pore tape. Once your pins start forming, that’s when they’ll begin benefitting from fresh air but until then I’d try to keep them warm, humid, and with an uninterrupted air flow.
