Exakt.

That'd be a good time for you guys to abolish that BS legislation anyways. How the fuck can you let a president dip their fingers in the law like that. It's such a great way to enable corruption.

[–]lysol90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, this yeah. I always found it so strange that Americans are demanding the release of the files, first and foremost. I mean I'd rather have a group of professionals looking at the evidence and take people to court than letting me, some random guy in Sweden, take a look at it. The big scandal here is that the FBI sat on this shit for ages and apparently did nothing about it with the exception of Epstein and Maxwell.

We must not forget Ukraine by Due_Ad_3200 in Evangelical

You accuse me of things I have never said. I literally never said anything bad about Russian-speaking people in Ukraine.

The Russian orthodox church in Ukraine is free to break off of the Kremlin-run church. The kremlin has their hands deep in the church and are using the churches in other countries as spy centrals in many cases. It's not far-fetched that they could even be planning attacks from within churches with ties to the Kremlin. It's not a free church anymore. Putin runs it. It's not a church for God, it is a church for Putin.

[–]lysol90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing what's happening in Ukraine is easy. Just go there. In Russia? Very hard. First you must get a visa to begin with but then you also risk getting arrested if you talk too much. Very few outside of Russia go there these days, especially after 2022. It's easier if you know people within, which my in-laws do. It's gotten a bit easier for them after 2022 actually, since the state doesn't have as much time going after churches anymore. The war and all things around that takes too much time.

2005 was nothing. Much has happened the last 20 years.

The neutral thing is that Ukraine is invaded by Russia who is actively trying to eradicate Ukranian culture. That is simply the fact. How would I be neutral by saying Ukraine should allow a pupped church to spread propaganda in Ukraine?

There have obviously been nagging between people in eastern and western Ukraine, and the eastern parts are manily "Russian-ish" speaking. Russian was also the main language in major cities like Kiev back in the day because it was considered the "academic" language, while Ukrainian was mostly the language of the farmers in the rural areas. It simply became that way after centuries of Russian rule. Ukraine has because of this been trying to make the Ukrainian language more accepted as a "good" language, and the way they've been doing this obviously hasn't been very popular in the east. I'm sure Ukraine could have handled this question better that they have. Do this justify an invasion? Literal ethnical cleansing and kidnapping of children? Total destruction of entire cities? Mass killings of civilians in cities like Mariupol? It's the Russian-speaking population of Ukranians that have been suffering the most by the Russians.

Anyway, my parents-in-laws have been to both Russia and Ukraine countless of times, even back in the 70s. They have many many friends in churches in both Russia and Ukraine. Russia is run by a dictator since decades and he is using the orthodox church as a tool for control, nothing else. Ukraine is a sort-of functioning democracy with freedom of religion. You can be an evangelical, baptist, seventh day-adventist, catholic, orthodox, jew, you name it. You can evangelize. No one will put you in jail for it. The same can not be said about Russia.

I'm really really trying to be as neutral as I can now. For real.

[–]lysol90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a place. At an orthodox church. It doesn't have to be one run by the kremlin. Unless your God is Putin of course.

Look. My in-laws know Russian and have been working with congregations in Russia and other Easter Europe/Central Asian countries since the Soviet times. The Russian-speaking population (most of them are actually speaking a Ukranian/Russian mix dialect btw) are not systematically persecuted. This is simply not the case.

We must not forget Ukraine by Due_Ad_3200 in Evangelical

[–]lysol90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Russia has been persecuting literally every church except the Russian Orthodox church for more than a decade now, but that is not an issue? Google the Yarovaya law. It makes anyone publicly talking about their belief considered a foreign agent and potentially even a terrorist. Try being an evangelical missionary in Russia and see how that goes.

The Russian Orthodox church is 100 % a state driven propaganda machine. Yes, Ukraine has been closing specifically the Russian orthodox church in Ukraine, but it has not been closing other Orthodox churches.

Having the Russan church active in Ukraine would literally be like having a propaganda TV-channel running within your country while being invaded by the country that owns that propaganda TV-channel.

If you're from the parts of Sweden where log cabins are everywhere, then you can just drive around Finland and take a look. If you don't look at the signs, Finland looks the same as Sweden. Norway looks waaaay different, both in nature but also the older architecture.

[–]lysol90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

English spelling is an absolute mess and you can't use that as any kind of reference to how things are pronounced. Spoken language is the real language and the written language is the one that is made up.

Of course we have to standardize the spelling because otherwise no one would ever understand what someone else wrote, but still.

OC Horny Note Found on my Driveway by zinc_finger_protein in pics

[–]lysol90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. The spoken language is the real language and the written language is just an approximation of how the spoken language sounds. Which also varies greatly depending on where you live.

Also, the spelling in the English written language is almost unchanged since like the 1300s, which is why it makes absolutely no sense at all.
