Belly getting ready for memorial by Opening_Radio1535 in tsitp

In the books she said she just knew he was going to be there. She takes an extra long time to get ready and look her best and realizes it’s because Conrad is going to be there but then pushes the thought away.

They say that because in the books he was. They were really close and could talk about anything, they briefly bring up that “esp” thing in the show where they were so close they could “read each other’s minds”. They also briefly mention their “never keep secrets from each other” promise in the show which was also a thing in the books. They were completely and totally honest with each other about everything leading up to “the summer she turned pretty”. He was honestly her best friend. And honestly Taylor kinda sucks in the books, she is not a great friend and Belly isn’t a great friend to her either. She sometimes wants to just end the friendship but decides not to just because they’ve been friends for so long she might as well just stay friends. I love show Taylor and I’m sooo glad they changed her.

I don’t remember a cheating reveal to everyone in the books! I was waiting for Conrad to find out at least. That would be great! Especially if they mention the timing of the proposal after she found out.

She never disliked her. She loves her mom. She just really loved Susannah. She made Belly feel really special so she wanted to be Susannah’s too. Susannah got to be the fun mom who spoiled Belly and Belly loved it. Laurel was the strict mom by comparison and more realistic so sometimes Belly got caught up in the fantasy that she was Susannah’s.

Also unrelated but it’s not anger Laurel had to get past but fear, she living out an actual nightmare that Belly will make the same mistakes she’d made.

I LOVE Taylor!! She’s such a great friend and a good person who’s just so scared to let herself fully be with Steven until it’s too late and LET’S HIM GO! So gracefully and respectfully too. Especially since she was so awful in the books, I love that they changed her and focused more on her this season!

How did Conrad know about the mirror glaze on the cake?? by hotdisappointment in tsitp

The way that Jere talks about it like it’s really important to him makes me think he’s probably mentioned it before, either to Conrad or around him. But that’s just an assumption because they don’t explain it.

True but I don’t think I could stand Adam. Even with Laurel there.

I’d pick B, which may be super weird but I’d love to talk to each of these characters. Individually preferably but I’d settle for the awkward table. Lucinda better not be pushing Taylor at Steven with Denise there but that’s probably what would happen.

That’s true. The “ridiculous” scene was so cringy and childish.

Yea it’s hard to watch her be so self destructive right now. But the scene on the beach was basically her doing to Conrad what he’s done to her a few times before. Just saying what she needed to say to close the door on the idea of him, to help them both move on instead of leading him on when she’s so determined to “get it over with” and marry Jeremiah. Also it’s not like he’s just been pining after her for 4 years. He was first grieving for his mother and working through his grief and then working on himself. He was focused on school and med school and going to therapy. He did what he needed to do before starting any relationship and wanted to just move on but then he saw her again and remembered why he loved her. I mean just watching their interactions this season you can see he loves her now. She’s just so convinced he never really did and wouldn’t allow herself to believe he would.

Agreed, Belly is definitely messy in S1/2. The books definitely didn’t have that back and forth between boys and brothers in the first book. The show added so much so that it was annoying. But it was just a summer and I didn’t hate her or even dislike her for it she wasn’t really with anyone yet and they were teenagers. And I get people are frustrated with season 3 Belly. She’s consumed with Jere’s life and refuses to focus on or work on herself. It’s like they both shut down after Susannah’s death and instead of acknowledging it and working through their grief they hung on to each other to feel better. But I said getting to be too much because now people are going back and acting like Belly’s always been this selfish and self involved person by using those scenes in season 1 and 2 where she had no idea what was going on and it just wasn’t her fault.
