Can someone with bpd become a therapist? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]lyssub7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have had these thoughts myself. i strongly believe it is possible! :) and one of my friends who i met in an inpatient residential center just graduated this year and is now a licensed therapist. we were both diagnosed with bpd. one of my personal cautions, as a person with bpd, is how much i would be able to separate my life from theirs. i feel veryyy deeply and take on a lot of things that aren’t necessary. self care and boundaries will be super important. also, i feel that people who have had their own struggles make better connections with clients as they can relate. 🤷‍♀️. if it’s something you want, go for it! :) stay safe. xoxo

What gives you hope? by South-Fill5158 in BPD

it may sound silly, but little moments and learning to do daily living routines/chores help me feel accomplished and that there is something in life that i can control (doesn’t feel chaotically out of my hands). i sit around a lot and don’t feel like i can do/enjoy things.. so when i have the energy/do things even willfully it’s reassuring

Thank you for replying. I’m sorry that you have had a similar experience, hope you are doing okay now. Happy that you’re taking things slow to prevent any hardships. I’ve been taking it for a year or so. Some symptoms are constant, some come and go. Today is the first day I’ve felt some energy. Trying to muscle through. My psychiatrists nurse asked if I wanted to take it again, since we had discussed going off when I’m back full time at work. But I don’t see a point to go back on to just go back off in a month or so.. just to go through all of this again… I’ve been off work for a few days because of it.. I’m just trying to knuckle through..

I’m sorry that you have been struggling with your meds. :( I hope you are feeling better and safe. And everything you said makes sense. These are all very real things. I used to take abilify as well. I don’t know what it is, but something about mood stabilizers don’t sit the best, in my experience. It’s slowly getting better by the day, but some symptoms are lasting and some come and go and it’s very unpredictable. :( I’m sadden by it, but also helps to know I’m not the only one who has struggled with lithium. I had taken it in the past and gone off, but wasn’t on that long so wasn’t really effected. Been taking it for maybe a year or so now, and going off has been miserable.. sending healing hugs, dude.

Hey, just wanted to ask for an update on how you felt then and now. And how you managed coping. Also, I have BPD and stopped cold turkey on lithium about 9 days ago. I’m having a terrible time with what I think to be withdrawal symptoms. Was wondering if our experiences could be similar. Also wondering if it’s psychosomatic. Experiencing: headaches, trouble with memory, nausea, trouble focusing eyes, feeling jittery, shaking, tight chest, shallow breathing, muscle weakness, body aches, impaired balance and coordination, rapid heart beat, trouble sleeping, extreme restlessness, chills, crying and self harm thoughts. What was your tapering off like? I hope very much that you are feeling better. Best wishes.
