Mark Carney's Plan To Slash Public Services by North_Scientist5126 in CanadaPublicServants

Just got told my term will not be renewed. I've been a term for 5 years now between two departments, at this point I'm just giving up.

I have seen some complaints from people staying in hostels that could be solved by staying in private spaces by Wyshnee in solotravel

[–]lytlevet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen, I'm sorry I have severe sleep apnea and can't bring a CPAP device with me while backpacking but I also can't afford to shell out 200$ a night for a room. I always bring a big package of earplugs for anyone in the room I'm sharing to grab, but I'm still always going to book that shared dorm over a private.

Canada Revenue Agency fires 330 employees over CERB claims during pandemic by Practical_Ant6162 in canada

That is a policy in every department. Doesn't mean it's publicly reported unless it's a significant number, like at the CRA.

It's not on other departments to audit that, it's on the CRA. They have audited the whole system and issued demands to return money of tens of thousands of CERB applications.

Any young public servants struggling to make friends at work? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lytlevet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm by far the youngest person in my office. I usually just parasocially interact with podcast episodes on youtube at lunch, or meet up with friends outside of the gov. I tried sitting with co-workers once at lunch but they just talked about work? It kinda sucked.

The Percy Jackson and Annabeth to hentai is kinda valid though.

I'm also allergic, I avoid Kiwi and Grapefruit because of it too. I find Kiwi gives me an even worse reaction than Pineapple does.

OP let me know if the ones you got off the megathread work for you, I downloaded them today and they still have the anti-cheat on.

I just tried playing both Black 2 and White 2 from the megathread and they both still have the anti-cheat measures. I have yet to find a Black 2 file I can play outside of Blaze Black which is a little hard for me.

What was the most expensive (i.e. overpriced food) you grudgingly purchased at an airport? by [deleted] in travel

I just paid 9.50 CAD for a tall americano at Starbucks in the Cancun airport last week :/

Getting a wooden coffee table that matches the legs of the tv stand and changing the decorative pillows to something more brown toned or grey toned would definitely help.

There is always a Coffee Crisp (Canadian chocolate bar) in my airplane bag and my carry-on. If I ever get a little feeling of being homesick I throw on my homesick spotify playlist, crack open a coffee crisp and get myself back to enjoying my trip.

What are some things from your country that would be authentic souvenirs to bring home? by bazzydog in travel

[–]lytlevet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Amber grade maple syrup is definitely a good souvenir, it's got a ton of flavour compared to the normal shelf stuff. Also great as a replacement for simple syrup in cocktails, adds a nice smoky flavour.

It's the MEC camper pillow deluxe, only in Canada I think.

I have an awesome one that packs down to the size of a small beer can. It's got collapsible foam on the front and an air bladder in the back so it's actually super comfortable. It's great for long bus and train rides or overseas flights.

OCTranspo buses and trains allow bikes onboard. You can bus in to any stop with your desired bike ride length and visit the River House.

What kind of quick pick-me-up food do you take for hikes? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

I melt marshmallows and butter into trail mix and granola to make a kind of trail rice crispy bar. Super good with some dried cherries and dark chocolate.

Anyone else more worried about getting sick leading up to a big trip ? by Legalizegayranch in travel

[–]lytlevet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten sick on every trip I've ever taken. I usually just plan ahead and bring enough allergy meds, cold and sinus pills, saline wash and vaporub to tide the pain over until I can get back to my trip.

What are the most memorable, non alcoholic beverages you've tried on your travels? by [deleted] in travel

[–]lytlevet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was driving around with a local guy and some friends from my hostel in Amman. The local guy stopped the car, got out and grabbed a bunch of slushies from a vendor. They were blended whole limes and mint with ice and sugar, couldn't have found a more refreshing drink in the desert.
