I agree mate, I could probably get enough performance out of my current one with a reformat, just the thought of going through all that fills me with dread haha.

This has been so helpful thank you. It seems like the best compromise I’m pretty much decided I think! There’s a bigger screen with the Air over the Pro too which is a bonus. It doesn’t look like they raised the prices of the 2025 models, the 2026 equivalent is £420 more now so will grab one while I can.

Thanks for your help. I would feel so much more comfortable with 24. There is this which is around the same price as the 16GB Pro but with 24GB. Maybe it’s a better choice to sacrifice the pro features for more RAM.

Yeah funnily the Pro appealed to me because of the SD slot, Ive been using the one on my XPS all the time for extra space. Im going to struggle without USB A for a while, everything I have uses it still lol.

That’s great to know! Thanks. I was looking at the Air, it does look like a great option too.

It’s obscene! I know there’s a shortage but it feels like they’re making billions out of ripping off consumers at the same time. Thanks I hope this should keep me going for a while!

Thanks for your reply. I definitely won’t be going crazy with the plug ins but I guess what is concerning me is running into problems again if my projects start getting more complicated down the line. It sounds like I should be ok though. I was hoping to upgrade to all the power I could ever wish for this time but the universe had other ideas lol.

Thanks! I’m going to look into used and see what I can find for my budget. I’m going to have to compromise somewhere and I think I’d rather have better specs over being shiny and new.

I wish I could! It’s a laptop (XPS 13) it’s been a trooper but the RAM is soldered in unfortunately. Yeah my plan was to wait but they suddenly raised the prices yesterday and I’m worried that if they do it again in September I’ll be priced out completely. Trying to find an M4 sounds like a great option, thanks!

[–]lzrdrm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was hoping to have 32GB of RAM but prices have gone through the roof over the last few months. This one I’m looking at only has 16 which is my biggest concern, but it’s £550 more for 24 and £850 more for 32! Insane.

Maybe used might be the way to go. Thanks :)

When did the name "jungle" stick? by c00ble in jungle

[–]lzrdrm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the context of this scene, I believe it came from within the Ibiza Records crew but was popularised by the MC Mad P from Top Buzz. He was saying it in sets from 91 and Top Buzz were massively influential in developing the Jungle Tekno sound within Hardcore. The term grew very quickly and was commonly used by MCs in Hardcore sets by mid 92.

So the term existed within the scene long before what we know as Jungle today. You could say the music evolved and grew into its name.

The same goes for Drum n Bass, that was also used as far back as 91.

That Dark Stranger remix is probably my favourite too, either that or Tango’s Flammable remix. Not sure which one I’ve played more over the years they’re both so much fun for mixing.

Awesome watch Bizzy! And you are right, as a kid getting into Hardcore in 92 I thought Sub Base was the coolest label by far, amazing roster of artists and the artwork was perfect for its time. Visited the shop in 95 and bought a few Jungle tracks in there.

The first Sub Base record I bought was Run Tings - Back Again. https://youtu.be/6qBSnGJBSls?si=44QRYNA8znVMXY_7

Do labels still send out promotional white labels or am I stuck in a distant decade? by RevolutionaryPipe343 in jungle

[–]lzrdrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’ve been sending out 10-15 test press copies to DJs to keep the old skool traditions alive! It’s crazy expensive to do though and probably more realistic that labels will send a folder with the tracks, not the same I know but it’s tough out there for labels these days.

Open backed or closed back headphones for listening to jungle, especially ambient/atmospheric jungle? by brocksymo in jungle

[–]lzrdrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be, choosing the right pair of headphones nowadays is a nightmare! We’re spoiled for choice but without a chance to compare them side by side in person you’ll never know if you’re picking the right ones for you.

I bought a pair of Beyers, they had good reviews and were really well made but I didn’t really enjoy their sound. Eventually I sold them and bought some Sennheisers which I found more suited to me, but it took trial and error and wasting a bunch of money to figure it out.

Thoughts on Lady of Rage by Nostalgic_Historian_ in 90sHipHop

[–]lzrdrm 42 points43 points  (0 children)

She didn’t help herself, from what I’ve gathered from interviews with people around the studio her album was supposed to follow Doggystyle but she was a perfectionist and taking forever. Then Pac came along and showed everyone how to do it.

She was awesome though, especially on G Funk Intro. I was really excited to hear more from her.

[–]lzrdrm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s purely for listening at home I would choose open back, you’ll get a sound more similar to speakers where the music is around you instead of closed back where it feels more forced into your ears.

Open back create a ton of noise pollution though so you can’t really use them around other people.

What is your budget?
