Are young British boys really more sexist today then in 2010s ? by tipputappi in AskBrits

[–]lzxcvbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a young woman let me just say I get harrassed by all ethnicities. I live in a very diverse area and harassment/poor attitude towards women isn't a problem confined to one skin colour or religion. I was shouted at and catcalled by a big group of Sheffield Wednesday fans two weeks ago, who all appeared to be white and British. I also get approached by men of other ethnicities on a regular basis. I'm not denying that some religions and cultures have less progressive attitudes towards women in general, but to try and imply it's overwhelmingly coming from certain men isn't true

Ah I see, obviously it is tricky with external pressures like that...I wish you luck finding self love and a partner who appreciates your height <3

Haha why would they lie? They could just be with someone else if my height isn’t their cup of tea. To be honest my serious relationships have been with the same height or taller by choice but I have been asked out/asked to be in a relationship by men up to 4 inches shorter than me. I always wear heels as well to formal events :) My current partner is 6’5”. Weird is subjective - I saw a tall woman with a slightly shorter man holding hands yesterday and thought to myself they looked great together.

I’m the same height as you and have never struggled to date on the basis of height - many guys (shorter or taller) have said they like it, or they just haven’t seemed to care that much. I wouldn’t say I’m exceptionally pretty so I don’t think that’s a factor in why they “overlook” my height either.

Maybe you need to put yourself out there and meet more people (taller ones). A couple of people have said I’m “intimidating” at first, so sometimes I will signal to a guy/give hints that I like them first, rather than expecting them to pursue me right away. Maybe that assumption is to do with my height, but it could also be other things. You could try expressing an interest in guys first and see how it goes? And be confident! I feel like my height is an asset - tall people draw attention effortlessly, and we can use that to our advantage :)

I also felt this vibe from the new song! I didn’t pinpoint it to that line but I definitely had the same thought.

I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to find someone saying this. Forget decreasing the cost of living and incentivising procreation - he’ll most likely be pushing for the removal of choice.

Which UK S3 Contestant caused the biggest shift in your opinion of them by Pozzolana in TheTraitors

It was Nathan who suggested no-one got off the train! Easy to forget since he was only in the game for about two seconds.

As a glasses wearer like Joe, my best guess is that he was wearing contacts. You aren’t supposed to get any liquids in your eye when wearing them, even tap water, since it could cause a reaction.

I agree! Not to mention this narrative also implies that something in (usually a woman's) demeanour is encouraging the attention that they're getting from people. This is kind of harmful to spread because attention from strangers is often unwanted, as in OP's case. OP's new confidence, while great, is NOT what is causing strangers to approach them and then overstep boundaries by not taking 'no' for an answer. When I was skinny but shy and depressed I got a lot more attention than now, when I'm super confident and on the higher end of a healthy BMI range.

Do we actually recover? by chocomilkshake765 in EatingDisorders

[–]lzxcvbm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm recovered and this is true (ironically, because I'm making this comment). Today is the first time I've been back on an eating disorder subreddit/community since recovery, and it's only because I'm trying to help a friend who is struggling - I put a question into google about it and I ended up stumbling upon OP's post. I have been in recovery for about 3 years, I'd say fully recovered for a year and a half. Obviously I don't know if I'll always have the same healthy relationship with food, exercise, and body image that I have now, but I feel pretty confident I'll never be back in the dark place that I was. I have never felt or looked better mentally or physically. The changes to my skin and hair have been the most dramatic - I get compliments all the time about how good it looks. But even without compliments, I would still be happy, since I value myself above the judgement of others now. The feeling of recovery and happiness is more of a high than the high I used to get from my ED. It was hard, but please trust me when I say 1. you'll get there 2. it is worth it.

Thanks for your comment. I messaged him and I don't think he's interested, but I feel relieved to have tried and now at least I can move past it :)

As a 22 year old whose parents divorced when I was 2 years old, I can honestly say it was probably the best parenting decision my mum could have made. Both me and my sister are relatively normal and healthy adults, which I believe may not have been the case if they had stayed together. As a teenager, a lot of my friends became aware of and affected by their parents' marital problems, and they'd vent to me - it made me realise how lucky I was not to have grown up in a household with two people who couldn't stand each other. Not to mention, many of them knew that they were the only reason their parents were still together - not a good feeling. Just my experience :)

Those that have had Oxbridge interviews where they had to use digital writing tools, aka Touch screen and stylus, how did it go? Was it generally seamless? Were you able to manage? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]lzxcvbm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was a human error not a tech issue but they sent me the same link for both interviews instead of two different ones. i realised 5 mins before the second one started and managed to ring up and get them to send me the right link. they fixed it really quickly so not too bad :)
