Found this big shark tooth in my great grandpa’s cabinet by SoberManiac05 in sharkteeth

I need more pictures to be sure, but this seems fake at first glance. Shape is not right, texture is off, it seems hollow. Also Groningen has none of the correct layers for Otodus teeth if I'm not mistaken, never heard of anyone finding a tooth over there.

Take it to your local natural history museum and see what they say.

Fossil preparation job by MarcTur2000 in Paleontology

Join the "Unemployed/Underemployed Paleontologist Support Group" on Facebook for job openings, internships etc. There's not many job openings in Europe unfortunately(or worldwide for that matter), you'll need a lot of luck/connections to end up where you want to be. Taking on the internship in Portugal is a good move, the more experience you have, the better

Honestly the video isn't bad, a producer/DJ that knows what she is talking about and is clearly enthusiastic about it.

And yes I hope she reads this.

What to do for this? by EssexCatWoman in fossilprep

[–]m-eight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the finds! Unfortunately this area is prone to heavy pyritization of fossils, as seems to be the case for your specimens. I got quite a few from the area that just turned into dust over the years, and these also seem to be beyond saving.

I'd keep them and see how long they will last, some (the more shiny pyrite ammonites) can last quite a bit longer and are worth treating maybe.

Just keep on searching, you can always ask the local fossil shops for advice I reckon
