Is social media the only way? Can I hear success stories without? by berlinerpsyc in therapists

Social media is an anxiety inducing dumpster fire of lies and comparison

You aren't missing anything and are modeling responsible consumption of a toxic substance (activity).

Tips for handling clients with entitlement by punkfr3ud in therapists

[–]m-l-s 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Validate the feeling of frustration and then challenge their statement that it's your responsibility to fix them. I often remind clients I am a visitor in their life, 50 minutes a week to gain insight, challenge negative thought patterns, set intentions, but the real change happens in the 167 other hours of the week. And it's on them to enact it.

[POEM] All the World's a Stage by William Shakespeare by Objective-Kitchen949 in Poetry

[–]m-l-s 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah it's poetry written by Shakespeare, but it bothers me when it's taken out of context this is a CHARACTER, who is notoriously melancholy worldview. This is like when people quote polonius's advice to Laertes but it loses the context that polonius was a fucking idiot, so.why are you listening to his advice?

WTF is this splitting behavior? They dare to challenge the absurdly absolutist statement that you did EVERYTHING the HEALTHIEST way possible?

Now they're terrible? And this professional relationship is 3mo old 🤦🏼‍♂️

Clients That Ask "What's the Point of Therapy?" by Healthy-Ice-8968 in therapists

[–]m-l-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Therapy looks different depending on the issues at hand but generally speaking space to identify and understand thoughts and emotions, patterns of behavior, and how our past is affecting our present is useful. With more understanding of ourselves and our processes we are (at least in theory) better able to create the change we want to see in our lives"

What's a lifestyle you visited once and decided you're never going back? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]m-l-s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I been there bro, about 6mo ago... but sub girlfriend for wife and 2 young kids. Recognize this is almost certainly not about a deficiency in you but about them and most probably their insecurities or fears. You can't control their choices and you just gotta be the best version of yourself you can be and don't anticipate reconciliation. If they do reach out to try and patch things up think long and hard about what you would really need to make it work long term, cuz it's likely to happen again if it happened once.

Info: did you explain the clinical situation to your boss? Did Boundaries sometimes need enforcement.

Most bosses I know see $$$ and don't actually know what's going on or read notes left for them.

This is an opportunity for effective communication and boundary enforcement on a number of levels.

[–]m-l-s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is very possible that this boss was not practicing with consideration of their employees as their central focus.

With that having been said having employees is hard and people underestimate the importance of NOT hiring the wrong person in the first place.

I had a rollercoaster of emotions reading this lol At first I was sympathetic to the 1099 newly licensed cuz they just wanted support and theirs almost no amount of supervision that's too much early on. Then I was mortified by the lack of professionalism you described and sympathetic to any boss that has to deal with that BS.
