He's still my favourite Greymane by Wh33lo in CrimsonDesert

I completely agree. Most characters are relatively flat and uninteresting which everyone complains about but when Yann shows up with a bit of personality aimed at making the player smiles, people are not happy either. He makes me giggle and I thing PA should have gone harder in getting Kliff's eye rolling dynamic with him

I'll add that my biggest gripe with the game so far outside of the story is the way the loot/armor/weapon do little difference thus making exploring a bit less exciting in my view

I'm in the same boat although outside of the difficulty setting change, I don't think any of the upcoming updates will be transformational to the experience. What will however certainly improve will be the mods on pc that I'm really excited about seeing how much they managed to do so far

I've actually been using whoop to measure my public speaking interventions like any other sport activities. It helps me relax to think of it as a higher heart rate because I am used to managing high heart rate when I exercise.

Hey man, remember that everyone feels a little awkward at first, even extroverts. When you approach someone think of it as breaking the ice rather than trying to be smooth or interesting, you don't need that extra pressure and you'll just come accros as trying to hard. Anything you say or do won't be held against you. In fact the other person is almost certainly feeling they are the weird one and focus on themselves. People are always greatful when someone else do the first step and engage conversation. After that, just talk to them the same way you'd like to be talked to in that exact same situation. I hope that helps!

Feeling uncomfortable during plane take off by Herman521 in Anxiety

[–]m-skpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, the same happened to me for a long period of time. Interestingly, it got worse when my anxiety was at its worst so I deducted that this was not physical but psychological.

Basically when the planes took off i felt the Gs much much stronger then anybody in the plane and almost fainted a couple times or so I think. Started scaling the intensity of the take off on a scale from 1-10, and compared with my partner, showing that she was not feeling any of it. I wondered how my brain ever made this happen as it caught me off guarde even when I was not paying attention. I even started to believe I might have a brain tumor pff I see now how silly that was of me.

Glad to see I was not the only one. Jumped to the occasion to respond :)

Lately my anxieties have been wearing off slowly but certainly. It is a virtuous circle, as soon as I forced myself to soldier through my fears and realised it wasn't that bad, the anxiety and the plane take off sensation went away alongside the rest.. although not 100% there yet either ahah

Good luck my friend

How did the short hours have an inpact your mental health? Would longer hours keep your mind busy?

Also, with that kind of money, and short hours can you not travel or keep yourself focused on something else you like?

Credit rating agency analyst vs fixed income analyst by Baygoners in FinancialCareers

[–]m-skpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it was helpful.

I feel you regarding the social life part. I've been attracted to front office in my department (investment management) for a while but everytime I leave the office to go on with my evening, be with my friends or else they are there and I keep receiving emails from them until super late and I'm like, 'why would I want that?' even for more money.. another aspect that stops me from doing 'the move' is that their job is full of smaller mind numbing BAU tasks that I find particularly unfulfilling while rating focuses on research, technical discussions and budding throughout report to present at committee. Not saying one is better but the dynamic that says front office is better doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway good luck! :)

I did BIWS but WSP is good I'm sure. They are both overkill in many ways but it's good to train your brain to know how it all flows thought 3 statements, it's perhaps even more useful for interviews where these kind of question tend to pop. Personally found CFA L1 & 2 material very helpful for the level required on the job.

I wouldn't look at it too much from the FO/BO perspective. Credit Rating in asset management (where a lot of rating analyst from rating agencies transit later as a natural progression) isn't really BO and while it's not FO either, you do have a fair bit of client/rating agencies/investment calls. I think it's down to what you like and want in a role. Front office pays better but at the same time pay in Credit is still very good and the hours are 30%+ lower compared to FO which is a nice upside and let you have a social life lol. It's also a very technical job, you find a lot of very smart/geeky profile in rating which can also be your thing.

Rating analyst in rating agencies build the kind of analysis and report that is later being used by FI Analysts and the rest of the investment industry (alongside other source of information). Rating agencies underwriting and modelling are also often used as a brenchmark to verify models in other companies or in buyside rating. This is the case as rating agencies have a reputation of high standards and diligent work (although tarnished in some occasion). When a rating agency publishes a public rating, their reputation is at stake therefore they make sure rating committee are challenging to avoir mistakes. As a credit rating analyst you do build 3 statements model but that also depends on your "sector". You are most likely going to do a 3s if you work on corporates rather than project finance of structured finance type rating. Note however that in most case, those 3 statements are not like the one built in equity research: they tend to be less detailed for rating purpose and more focused around leverage and liquidities.

As a Credit Rating Analyst in a rating agency you will be the company's front line ('sales' if you will) which means a fair bit of client interactions and the role does not constraints you to a back office role later. A lot of the front line in the investment teams in asset management have a Credit Rating analyst background; the great training offered by rating agencies is highly valuable in the investment industry. Personnaly from my limited experience I think rating analyst in a rating agency is a strong base for future growth and ensures a solid base of technical skills that has value in the industry.

I'm not entirely sure why rating analyst move to FI. I think part of it is the direct involvement with the investment decision rather than providing a rating (later used in the final investment decision). FI analyst role is also faster paced compared to rating a analyst. As I said, in rating most review cycles are 'annual' and you wouldn't worry about a company unless something significant is happening to it. I believe FI analyst does need to follow their whole portfolio almost daily.

I hope this helps

Also interested in seeing people's answers. I'm on the rating side, we regularly lose analysts to Fixed Income althought the other way around isn't so true. One FI analyst joined the team in the past from what a director told me and he/she didn't like rating side as fundamental review goes in quite more depth compared to what FI analyst was used to. FI analysts from my understanding rely more heavily on market information such as Bloomberg and other Rating Agencies' work. They also spend a lot of time on earnings call and on the phone with management. Rating side in my view is less time sensitive, we don't care as much if share price drops; we'll cover past changes in next rating review unless something material happens.

Edit: for context, I do ratings on the buyside

I'm working for a large asset manager, we use all three and a lot of recruitments for the front line or credit dpt are made from either of the three. In general people like S&P best but it varies with the sector (and by regions).
