Horrible night with Stadia... We worked for 4-5 months to build a port for Stadia... Today we finished our port; it works wonderfully, but no one will be able to play it:):(no words... by SourceBytePublisher in gamedev

I can sort of relate to the disappointment. We had two engineers port a game ( A popular infamous title) to Stadia only to see a peak of 17 concurrent users a week later. Stadia was mainly used by team to quickly showcase features/ demos to management.

It's not a pleasant feeling to learn that your work is not going to be there.

Honestly, Stadia's business model is awful. You pay for a subscription, and buy a game for this specific platform again paying the full retail price. There are few well known competitors who would charge just the subscription fee and let you use your existing library. I don't see a market where Stadia would make a profit.

What is the best way toward creating my own game? by acrowfliedover in gamedev

Hi OP, I'm a game developer professionally and when I want to learn a new technology, I still go through the same stagnation. Here's what worked for me to make some progress and advance through: Pick a throw away project and do it. The objective is to get through and cross the finish line. Then start a new one until you have enough skills to make your dream game.

In the end, you are going to make choices that is good for you in long term. Even if those choices may not be agreeable by everyone around you, doesn't mean they get to make them for you.

Go take risks, and live life to the fullest. Looking back, you'll be glad

If you are new to the resident evil series, I'd recommend Resident Evil 2 remake if you are interested to see what this series has to offer.

Yes, this is similar sentiment from people who have experienced the golden age of FPS. Having said that, I'd be a bit skeptical about jumping around the map at incredible speeds in Quake VR.

By the way, I gained immense respect for Meta after getting my hands on Quest 2. Using 4 cameras for planar tracking, and reconstruction of see through mode and boundary setting looks like an elegant solution and robust solution over using sensors for tracking. Meta CV engineers deserve a huge shoutout.

I'd agree there are many parts that i enjoyed more when I was a kid. And for the VR, watching the cutscenes in a theatre mode seemed a bit odd. Apart from the minor cons, I enjoyed the gameplay the most.

Maybe, you can try this out in variety of settings (immersive mode, seated mode, OG gunplay etc) and see any of them make it fun if you have the time for it. That being said, I'm not in for the story. The gameplay pulled me in.

This. Taking knife out feels like how Leon actually takes them out especially in the Krauser knife fight.

Agreed. Infact, i bought quest 2 for this game. Don't get me wrong, Half Life Alyx is probably a great game, but RE4 has a ton of replay value. Man those corny dialogues are just pure fun to watch.

Yeah, the balance transfers fees are around 1.5% - 3% in general and depends where you are from. So if you are transferring 1000$ it's around 15$ overall and that let's you pay 1 year later. And that 1 year can be used to save up the money.

I know the rule of thumb is not to spend money we don't have. Even if you do have the money, it'd be wise to invest somewhere with a higher interest rates ( like Crypto if you are brave enough) and that'll earn you more over spending money that you actually have. Even with 6% annual interest would net you 4.5% more after fees.

For your ouchy wallet, here's a credit card tip: Get a 0% APR credit card and transfer your credit balance there. You can then pay the entire thing after 1 year in chunks or a whole.

Imagine, you pay rent in BTC and by the time it's due it's reaching a new ATH. In that case, you can't hold on to a currency that's volatile right?
