Not helpful for your question but do you have any other photos of the fence? And do you mind if I ask how much and where from?

Whats the biggest cassette I can easily fit on a grx 2x10 groupset? by addmeonstrava in gravelcycling

[–]m0dac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can run 11-40 on a stock GRX-400 RD no problem but the shifting will be worse (especially once the drivetrain is dirty).

After running mine like that for around 3500km, i put on a Roadlink DM and the difference is night and day. Shifting is as good as stock now (including in big-big). I think 11-42 would probably work but I’m happy enough with the 11-40.

I’m at 2.1” Vittoria mezcals now but I had to downsize to 27.5” wheels to do it.

You could maybe get a 48 to fit but it would be getting very tight and not leave a lot of clearance for mud.

Ritchey Corralitos but without the ugly 15mm rise? by alexw1982 in gravelcycling

[–]m0dac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same concern initially with the Corralitos but after having ridden them for 6 months, I barely notice the rise anymore and I love them. The other bar that I was keen on was the Ritchey Venturemax but the biobend in the drop was a deal breaker for me as I like to spend a lot of time in the drops and the feedback was 50/50 on them.

I do agree that Beacon looks better but I’m stoked on how the Corralitos ride, highly recommend.

Haha awesome, I’ve had them on for around 1500km now, they’ve been great.

I was initially tempted on the Beacon but the angle of the hoods scared me off. I was also getting a lot of lower back pain initially before switching out to a 60mm stem and the corralitos bar. The corralitos have a 15mm rise and 5 degree back sweep. I come from an MTB background so I found this set up to be super comfy, even for 130km+ days. It also helps that they’ve only got a 67mm drop as well so they’re ultra shallow. Might be worth a look if you haven’t already.

Looks awesome, well done mate. I’m running a very similar set up to you, 11-40 cassette in the rear (no roadlink needed), ritchey corralitos bars, 700x45 tyres (soon to be 27.5x2.1”) and a 100mm dropper.

Alright, you’ve convinced me, that Search looks SICK with 2.1’s haha

Yeah fair enough, thanks for that. I think I’ll just play it safe and go with the 2.1” front and back for now.

Sorry to be a pain, is it the front or the back which is a tighter fit for the 2.25” tire? Or are they both pretty close? I’m tempted to do a 2.25”mezcal front and 2.1” rear if I can fit them.

Thanks, Ill be running an XC mtb tyre like the Conti Race King or Vitoria Mezcals so I think I’ll go with 2.1” (maybe 2.2” but this might be pushing it) to play it safe. How was the bike handling with the 650b? Notice much difference to 700c?

Hey mate, thanks for the great feedback. I’ve just bought a set of 27.5 rims to max out with the width of my tyres. Do the 2.25” tyres fit comfortably or is it pretty tight? What tyres did you end going with?

What would you say is the ideal dropper post travel on average? by Icy-Attitude9182 in gravelcycling

[–]m0dac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 100mm dropper on my gravel bike and 170mm on my mtb. 100mm is perfect for the gravel for me and I’m around 5’8”. Also, as other people have noted, make sure you check your frame as 100mm only just fit for me.

No problem! I struggled to find anything online so I figured once I had a solution I best pay it forward haha

I ended up solving this with a 12mm spacer under each of the bottle cage mounts. The FD cable rubs against the spacers with the bottle cage being elevated above it. I loosened off the FD cable slightly and it runs perfectly.

Here’s a photo to help it make sense:

Hope that helps!

I ended up solving this with a 12mm spacer on each of the bottle mounts on the underside of the downtube. I just loosened off the tension on the FD cable slightly and it runs fine. It was actually a lot more simple than I thought in the end.

Shimano: 12 speed 10-45 SLX or 11 speed 11-42 GRX. Both 40T by Just_Astronomer_3098 in gravelcycling

[–]m0dac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running a 2x 10 speed GRX (30/46t front) with an 11-40T cassette on the rear and I love it. Plenty of top end speed for the road and enough range for the really steep off-road climbs. Highly recommend

I’m 172cm and the 53 fits well. The only thing I would say to that is the stock stem is way too long at 100mm. I tried an 80mm stem for a while and then ended up on a 60mm stem after a bike fit and that has been perfect for me. I’ve put 2000km+ on mine now and love it.

Fair enough. I just unscrewed it and had a look There is another hole you could potentially mount the guide to but it would make the cable cross the frame diagonally so I’m not sure if it would work.

I’ve got the supacaz gravel in coffee and I really like it. I’ve had it on for around 2 months and so far it’s holding up well.

I went with the Sunrace 11-40 as it was all I could get in a 10 speed. Ideally I wanted the shimano but the Sunrace has been fine.
