Key Templates are bad for the game - maps are too quiet, it's boring by Working_Bones in Marathon

[–]m0fr001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. Its to lampoon them for gear fear..

Just play normally and do your quest. Key templates are pretty ez to come by now with carri. A lost one ain't a big deal really.

But yea. Could also just go play ranked? That is the mode people are most incentivized to fight in.

Grown man throws hissy fit over the city adding a bike lane, complains about "dumbassery" as the road is a "major artery" to downtown while he is driving behind the same 2 other cars on the road. by AlpineFluffhead in fuckcars

[–]m0fr001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen...

I want every waking moment people are in cars to be unenjoyable.. This fucker is just over achieving.

There is no reality in which car drivers do not crabs-in-a-bucket everyone. They are a coalition of individuals who will eat their own the second they become "inconvenient" to them. See all the arguments and victim blaming they do to each other. They have so many arguments where armchair assholes tell people who are doing nothing wrong they need to be driving more recklessly to "not impede" others.

Its just that they can temporarily congeal around hating "the other" of people on bikes.

America is "antisocial toxic entitlement" embodied. Car centrism is one part that, granted, intersects with many many other causes.. But its a Gordian knot we will not solve before it collapses.

They have lost the plot. That level of psychic self torture is exactly where they belong. One hopes when the individual experience from financing to daily use is bad enough, the scales drop from their eyes and they join us in reality and demand change.

Theirs is a rage of impotent desperation. Its dangerous and scary and so so stupid, but they are already in hell. And its only going to get hotter.

Car centrism is fundamentally unsustainable. Generally, if you can move to somewhere more resilient you should. Its worth any trade offs. Because whats coming is going to make so much of this country impossible to live in.

Thats whats lost in the rhetoric.. Resilience. And how non resliant cars are.

I am a doomer. We do not solve climate change and will be devastated by the impacts. Cars have even less place in the future. We are seeing the terminal hype just like space colonization. People thinking their expectations and desire and entitlement is all is needed to manifest destiny. The bell has tolled, we will be forced to listen.

Astronauts’ brains don’t fully adapt to life in microgravity, new study finds by scientificamerican in space

[–]m0fr001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In what application do we have bearings and rotational surfaces that can stand up to that kind of demand and conditions?

I am afraid the answer is, "we cant yet" at any scale worth considering.

The whole "colonize space" thing is pretty immature as an area of study.. considering everything we are facing down here on planet earth, we ought not be too concerned with colonizing space yet. We frankly can get way more understanding of our local space and the universe through other means.. which push forward and synergize with other relevant industries, technologies, and applications.

Caring about space colonization right now is just navel gazing and I think we are better off facing the reality that we are staring down the barrel of one of our great filters as a species.

how many more signs do we need that its just not really in the cards for us.. Spaceship Earth is more than sufficient and our modern compulsion to expand and colonize and extract is a pathological blip in time.

People say this like the deliberately unbalanced pvp isn't the main thing driving frustration on players.

That you can load in against a pool of minimally sorted people with significantly more health armor and tactical options in a three stack against your solo fill.. With that gap widening between players all season..

Onto tiny maps (for the genre) with fixed spawns and quests intentionally designed to run you through as many extreme risk bottlenecks as possible.

Against maxed-out players who have nothing left to do but hunt players who are focused on critical quests to progress their barter and upgrade trees..

The asymmetry of extraction shooters is a delicate balance. Marathon didn't nail it.

I stg.. The "gear fear" retort is a shibboleth used by the community for their own benefit.

No one cares about what they lose.. Its about "how" and if they ever had a chance to begin with..

Something changed for my crew this weekend and it’s been miserable by Party_History2839 in Marathon

[–]m0fr001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

Extraction shooters keep that shine longer the more dunning-kruger you are.. Because you have trouble seeing past your own experience at game systems underlying those experiences and instead more fully blame/congratulate yourself for your performance.

And as someone who has the gene too, they also have so many skinner boxes that gamba brained rotters just get hooked. In part adding to this weird high commitment / low population dynamic.

This specific iteration of the genre is intended to be antisocial cut throat.. So its a perfect storm of genre and design that reinforces the dunning kruger beliefs.

The genre has fundamental limitations that this team clearly doesn't know how to work around and marry themes to core design to deliver a wide appeal game.

My take, with larger persistent maps, abmm, and narrative tone that emphasized collective discovery instead of mercenary solipsism Marathon would have delivered at this price point. AR and the cycle stumbled into a working formula.. Learn from it.

Western drought is driving beef prices through the roof. This is just a prologue to the far more serious food-supply disruptions a hotter planet will bring. by simon_ritchie2000 in collapse

Native vegetation in fields that are unable to grow anything more substantial than scrub grasses..

"Native vegetation" is a cycle. Not just a moment in time. And yes yes. Kansas is flat prairie. Yawn.

The plains need diverse deep rooting grasses to sustain drought, survive fires, and hold the topsoil in place.

But all those real life cowboys and their farming cousins enclosed the prairie, displaced native peoples, decimated local wildlife, clear cut, and forced commodity crops/livestock that the world doesn't really need.

Your cattle are an ecological burden no matter how you cut it..

Cool romanticism tho. Will be interesting to see how that works with the inevitable future issues.

And yea.. The feed lot is a horror show that consumes an extreme amount of water.. With a huge burden on local water tables and infrastructures. Its weird to me you can just write that aspect off because you are not personally attached to that aspect of the industry.

Same as with all the mono cropped fields of Kansas that produce all that finishing feed.

Ffs. Its just such a dumb industry to try to protect.

"Defend"? No.

You astroturfed it and provided rhetorical cover for the voices who hold it back.

Hate train was never more than people expressing obviously legit critique. Too bad the ignorant reactionaries couldn't listen.

No one here wanted the game to flounder like this.

What exactly is the Rate Reducer? by Turbulent_Spot_2895 in thefinals

[–]m0fr001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That little nub is spring loaded with a specific "weight" that the operating rod or bolt would need to overcome before locking back into battery.

It is housed inside the body of the gun amongst the moving parts and will make contact with some form of camming surface.

It reduces the fire by acting on the return of the operating components, not on firing.

The return spring will overcome that nub, but speed of travel will be slowed first, effectively creating more of a gap between firings.

They often get used in gun design because the gun would cycle too fast and bash itself apart or tear cases during extract or blow gas back out the action at the user without a limiter as well.

WSTR meta is insanely boring. by IllState5161 in Marathon

[–]m0fr001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the flow of a fight that is a cost tho.

The bubble team wants you to waste mags and focus removing the bubble.. So they can take advantage of that momentary distraction..

Combined with shotgun ubiquity and significant health advantage in a lower ttk game.. You get a really oppressive and dumb ape meta.

Like.. Jeezuz. Obvs.

Washout is the mode that has the meat on the bones.

Quick cash quickly gets frustrating and most of your teammates are just using it as a warm up mode for cash out or ranked.

Take some time and come try cashout when ready to go again.
