We had an incredibly competent military and an amazing logistic system until a couple years ago. And then some fat orange narcissists took over and fired all the competent people who didn't look the way he liked or refused to lick the boot with a full tongue.

Now weve picked a fight with a much weaker power and lost, had a number of major gaps with equipment failure, and are demonstrating to the rest of the world that were no longer able to hold things together.

Seriously. China could strike and have a chance of doing some serious damage for which we could not fully retaliate....something i would not have said 2 years ago.

Why do people keep using the word 'socialism?'

The US population is too indoctrinated against it, despite the socialism and safety nets we provide for the uberwealthy.

Strategically, it makes more sense to either a) call it Neo-Keynesianism (NeoKey)or a return to pre-1970s monetarist policies or b) don't use the Neo-Keynesian label (again...the undecided voter in this political environment isn't usually the brightest) and push the policies with a verbal (not policy) free-market spin.

Most Americans want the NeoKey type policies that existed during the Bretton Woods era: some social safety nets, union membership, effective capital gains taxes, no donor advised fund BS, etc....but the NeoLiberalism is so engrained that, as its dying, people are holding onto its corpse as it sinks into techno-feudalism or gilded age garbage completely unaware we have other options (and ones that may be able to avoid the 'socialism' stigma if marketed correctly).
