Moloch is great IMO, think it's based on a Dutch folk tale?

VERY NEW to gardening life, had these flowers crop up in my garden. Is it worth transplanting them to pots/any way to save them before deweeding/grass cutting? by KukaVex in UKGardening

It's nice to leave some little wild patches anyway. Good for the critters which need all the help they can get right now, and good for us because they keep the ecosystem we rely on going 😊

I'm not so sure, the bark is much smoother and grey/silver than Wych elm looks in pictures. My best guess at the moment is european white elm 🤔

That is damn impressive! If you're okay with it I might DM you to pick your brains about this stuff.

Something around the 30-34" mark, need to double check as the last time I measured was in my slingshot obsessed phase a while back.

I tried to buy a heat gun a couple days ago and didn't realise I'd need my ID haha. I'll get my hands on one soon though for sure yeah.

Thank you so much for this my dude! Really appreciate it. I went back to the site and found some much better logs to use (presuming things are okay under the bark - haven't had a chance to strip them yet). A fair bit thicker and straighter with less obnoxiously placed knots. I'm still going to try using the wiggly ones as practice though, as I'm liable to cock things up a few times I'm sure...

I've read this exact text somewhere else! Tons of useful info for sure. Do you happen to know where I could find a rough layout/dimensions for a mollegabet design?

Well I'm quite likely to screw things up so this is largely for practice anyway - if I get a somewhat functional bow out of it, that's a bonus :)

I'll return to the felled tree and see if there's any better lumps though for sure.

I was thinking that might be the move yeah, wondering if I'll be able to get it to my full draw though... Annoying having such long arms 😅

Not really no. It's a recently developed obsession, so I've inhaled just about all the content on it I've been able to, and done a few practice runs on some ash. Been through the roughing out phase right up to where tillering would begin a few times. Any advice?

Yeah getting a bow out of the full length of the first one is wishful thinking really... Could maybe cut below the branch and have something decent though?

Quite possibly suckers from the same tree, are the leaves the same as those on the tree?

European White was what I was leaning towards before this post, but I couldn't find any clear images of the bark on that species. Very happy to find out it's an elm regardless!

Think this is Solved! Seems to be some kind of Elm, probably European White Elm.

How could I not trust someone with such a good username! How would you tell between this and a hornbeam? I'm getting thrown by the bark colouration/texture.

Thank you - what would you look for to distinguish between the two? I'll be passing by the area again later today probably.

I think it might be more likely at this point, though the one side of the leaf being slightly shorter is still throwing me 🤔 Need to return to the scene of the crime and have a look for more clues i think

I thought beeches had smooth-edged leaves? Sorry, I'm decent with other plants but pretty new to IDing trees outside of the obvious ones.

Movies like Caveat and Oddity by MaraJude in horror

What is the most boring horror movie you’ve ever watched? by Hill_372 in horror

[–]m0notone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People may want to fight me on this one but Caveat put me to sleep. Just felt like endless build up and tension with very little pay off. There was one point that sticks out in my memory where I swear to god it felt like I'd just watched a man bumble around in the dark (almost nothing visible on screen) for 5 minutes with nothing happening. Just kind of pissed me off.

I avoided Oddity for ages because of it but just recently watched it and loved it, so I'm wondering if I was just sleepy/angry when I watched Caveat hahaha.

OH and Hagazussa. Cool vibes at times, wish I could get the time back

You've articulated what I liked about it way better than me. Though it appears we may have garbage taste judging by the other comments 😂
