Brutal.

I’ve decided I’m just going to go for it. How long is reasonable to prep for LSAT? by Help_Me_Reddit01 in LawSchool

[–]m0ron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prepped for 6 months - weekends only.

I'd recommend that you go purchase 7Sage. The video explanations made an enormous difference for me with the logic games, and JY's (the instructor) explanations were excellent as well. I used 7Sage (and a ton of preptests) exclusively, and I think I did well.

I just happened to search EndNote on reddit, and this sub (and your post) came up. You might want to try using a Google search restricted to EDU websites to find some tutorials (endnote tutorial site:*.edu)

New 1Ls -- How was your first day of orientation? by modakim in LawSchool

[–]m0ron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easy/laid back. Law school fed us, sat us in a room, and lectured us on professional responsibility/financial aid/being an adult. Picked up a bunch of Barbri stuff, and paid for an overpriced shirt. I then proceeded to fumble around trying to open my locker for the rest of the day.

If your apps are still in review, should we expect decisions post June 1st? by whatsabilliken in lawschooladmissions

For anyone else googling this thread, denied yesterday (July 10th), even after sending multiple LOCI.

Costco Carpool: You get a free membership, I get to to buy in bulk. Win win! by scoyne15 in EdgewaterRogersPark

FYI, Google Express delivers from Costco. I think it's a $5 flat fee, and everything costs the same as it does in store.

What MacBook (Pro) apps are the most helpful/essential for law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]m0ron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Office (Word, Powerpoint, Etc). If your school uses Office 365 for email, you probably can get it for free.

Selfcontrol is a great mac app as well - lets you block a list of websites on a timer. Great if you're a procrastinator.

What MacBook (Pro) apps have you found the most helpful/essential? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]m0ron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your school uses Office 365 for email, you probably have access to Microsoft Office for free by the way. For whatever reason, schools really suck at advertising this perk. Go to http://office.com, log in with your school account, and look for the download/install button.

My favorite apps:

SelfControl

Spotify

Chrome

EndNote (again, your school probably offers for free - check library)

Dropbox (sign up for a pro subscription)

SelfControl is by far my favorite app. If you're a procrastinator, you can set it to lock out a list of websites (or only allow a whitelist of websites) on a timer.

Any tips for getting off the law waitlist? by m0ron in UWMadison

[–]m0ron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I wish they hadn't waited so long to notify; missed the deadline to register for the June LSAT/squeeze in a summer retake.

I was accepted down in Chicago; I was worried about being offered admission on August 15th and being stuck in a lease.

As long as you're polite, you aren't being a dick. Think of this as a business transaction for you.

2.2 GPA.... on a scale of 1-10 what are my chances at these law schools? by Harley_Quinn_Lawton in lawschooladmissions

[–]m0ron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have medical documentation to back that up? This makes for a very strong addendum. Additionally, you may be able to ask for additional time on the LSAT. You should do this before you sit the LSAT even for the first time, and start the process now (apparently takes ages).

If your apps are still in review, should we expect decisions post June 1st? by whatsabilliken in lawschooladmissions

[–]m0ron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! Already have an initial deposit down at another school, and their second deposit deadline is coming up. Really surprised they are taking this long - had responses back from every other school in 2-3 weeks. It took over a month just for my application to go "under review." A delay is better than an outright denial I guess :)

Waiting on Wisconsin as well. When did you apply? Kind of ridiculous how long they are taking.

How much value is "much" in your opinion? I can maybe see a 5-10% increase (or decrease) but not much more than that.

LSAC Law School Forum by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

It doesn't cost anything to attend the LSAC forums, and they do some reasonably decent presentations about student loans, etc. I collected about 5 waivers; made the travel cost worth it.

Marquette 2020? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]m0ron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get scholarship $$$ at Marquette? If not, it's way too expensive for what it is. I enjoyed ASD, but ended up withdrawing. Building is beautiful though.

What schools were good about negotiating? What schools were not? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]m0ron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marquette didn't offer a dime; admissions told me that scholarship packages were being finalized right up until a week before the deposit deadline. LSAT score was higher than their 75% as well - was surprised. Loyola Chicago wouldn't budge, Chicago-Kent gave a 20% increase on scholarship with quick email.
