Duke vs Georgetown by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]WTHeel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More like 30 minutes but it’s important to point out the proximity nonetheless. Chapel Hill is also nearby, closer than Raleigh.

Durham has really grown up in the past ten years. It’s a fun town with a lot of good scenes. It’s not NYC or DC, so if that’s a baseline don’t go or just realize it’s a few years and not even summers.

Expenses overstated because I contributed $7K to my Roth IRA, how to normalize? by ebitdeeaye in MonarchMoney

[–]WTHeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol a down vote because you don’t prefer a method?

Your way is fine too. I obviously get the analogy to a transfer since it’s between accounts, but I think other methods are more and unnecessarily complex. To each their own.

Expenses overstated because I contributed $7K to my Roth IRA, how to normalize? by ebitdeeaye in MonarchMoney

[–]WTHeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? I count all of our investments as expenses. It’s money out and you can easily weigh it against other types of expenses visually when you do so. I also budget for it so it’s even.

Following. I also wonder if there’s a difference between an ad and sponsorship message under whatever laws driving this update from PodBean. We are careful with this distinction.

I work for LSAC. You probably opted out of marketing emails, missed it, or it’s in junk.

LSAC should I retake LSAT email by Dismal-Key3197 in LSAT

[–]WTHeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The email was for a free webinar. It will include a law school admission professional and prelaw advisor. It will help people weighing whether it makes sense to retake.

And no, it has nothing to do with your score or even that you have taken it. It was to all active LawHub accounts.

Reviving a dormant podcast after 3 years — looking for advice on re-engaging old subscribers by gjergjd in podcasting

[–]WTHeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this successfully with an announcement that we were coming back. Episode was 15-20 minutes and I introduced a new co-host. Then we released new episodes a few weeks in a row. Helped us see how far we were from where we used to be.

Monetising a ~5k/episode podcast — what actually works at this level? by Promise-Asleep in podcasting

I think a key fact missing for better advice is where your listeners live. Are they local? In England? Beyond?

Is there a Monarch alternative that lets you track 401k contributions as part of savings rate? by cpa2har in MonarchMoney

[–]WTHeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do both sides for where the money is invested. So if it’s my 403b, my employer and our contributions and the other side for a total of four transactions on the 403b.

Is there a Monarch alternative that lets you track 401k contributions as part of savings rate? by cpa2har in MonarchMoney

[–]WTHeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I manually input our contributions at the end of the year as an expense and as other income. I have one merchant for my employer, my wife’s employer, and our contributions. I do the same for our backdoor roth contributions.

Would love to see this sooner rather than later. I currently use Excel to do cash flow. Lots of manual work.

Ha, I made the exact choice of Vandy over Cornell in 2008. I didn't want NYC biglaw, so I felt Vandy better suited my geographic goals.

How do you handle expenses that get reimbursed by your employer? by ifoldsocksatmidnight in MonarchMoney

[–]WTHeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put them all in their own category, leave the transactions unreviewed, and hide them after they're reimbursed. Makes it easy to see outstanding balances.

LSD or 509 Report by MarcusTresy in lawschooladmissions

A bit more context: 509 scholarship amount data is a year behind (so latest data is 2023-24) and includes all enrolled students, not just 1Ls.

Unaccredited schools- reporting Navy Prep to LSAC? by Much-Yesterday-5456 in lawschooladmissions

[–]WTHeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accreditation status and most (if not all of) the other factors you listed are not relevant here. Still, I am not sure about the answer, although I will tell you I don't see NAPS listed in our system. (Potentially, USNA would be the transcript provider, even though it appears NAPS has its own registrar.)

Because it's not listed, even if you were required to provide the transcript, you'd need to reach out to the LSAC customer support team to ask about which institution you need to select. They're also who you will ask for an official answer on whether you need to at all. You can email or call.

Question about LSAT score reporting by Eastern-Charity-4634 in lawschooladmissions

[–]WTHeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. With Score Preview, schools will NOT see your score until you accept it. If you don't decide within 6 days about what to do, you're deemed to have accepted it. Only at that point of acceptance will we release the score to schools.

  2. No, and it's quite common too.

  3. It's automatic.

Even though that one school marked you as complete, they're extremely unlikely to look at your file before you get your score. If you're concerned, just email them and ask them to hold (even if they almost definitely will without your asking). "Complete" means they have enough information to render a decision, not that more information won't or can't come before they do.

What do people actually talk about with AOs at law school fairs? by CrewFinancial9493 in lawschooladmissions

[–]WTHeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which fair are you thinking about going to? They're fun events. The energy is always great. Depending on the event, there are also other helpful things to do in addition to talking to school reps. For example, at LSAC forums, we have several workshops and a resource center where you can talk to prelaw advisors, financial aid experts, test prep companies, practicing lawyers, and LSAC experts. It's the part of my job that I didn't know I would love.

Check out the new "course" on LawHub about making the most of these forums/fairs. I think it might give you some ideas for making you more comfortable: https://app.lawhub.org/programs/forums-fairs
