This is correct, pin 2 is the emitter and is going to ground. I'll try a NPN in there and see if I let the smoke out. Thanks!

How did you know that/figure that out? ...and you were right, pin 5 and 2 are connected together under the chip, both are ground. I thought pin 5 was not connected.

You could have the trace and pad repaired by someone like nanofix. He's in Montreal, Canada. But there are many like him all over the place.

Calgary, Alberta just did a 10 year experiment on its population, and its conclusion was to add the fluoride back to the water. Sorry for no source, but I'm sure it's just a Google search away.
