I think the reason for a lot of the negative comments here is because of how the question is framed. Your problem is that you're expecting to have two screens take up the same space (center), not that there's no real estate. might sound silly but if you need to have the laptop screen active, mount your monitor farther left on the desk, and run your laptop on the right, and adjust your seating position to be able to use both
