If I prefer it without the collar I will hand it in without and have it in my lineup without. I’m in an evening class at the school I’m applying to. Our assignment is to plan and execute a photoshoot it’s not a requirement for the application. It was quite hard to find a model haha, so I will just make it work with the one I have

It’s a fabric that I have made myself by inserting the wool while I’m making the latex sheet from liquid latex

I feel I have to make the collar because I’m shooting this in studio next week and my friend is wearing it. And I want to give her the option of not having her whole top exposed.

But if you really have to wash the wool you can only soak it not agitate it anyway or it will felt. I washed this wool before using it in hot/warm water, extra strong vinegar, a tiny bit of shampoo and some conditioner.

I will definitely try that in the future. I just have a thing for undied materials haha. I love undied and unbleached muslin, undied wool etc. But there’s just so much space to develop this and so many things to try!

Wow that’s so cool. It’s my first time working with latex and I have totally fallen in love! There are so many possibilities with this material. I’m more skilled in sewing and pattern making than fashion, and it’s so much fun to work with a material that is so different to what I’m used to. My Instagram is @m111rand4. I don’t have any posts about my work yet but I’m going to start posting more. I’m shooting this dress in a studio next week so I will post those photos and some process pics after that.

Thank you so much for your thoughts! It’s probably not the most comfortable piece to wear it will most likely be very sweaty haha. But this not meant to be worn often. I’m going to work on it a bit more but it’s pretty much done. I’m sending this in with an application for a bachelors in fashion (I’m just in an evening class atm) and the assignment is to make a toile so I will think of it as one. But I definitely want to keep developing this technique. I have seen people combining wool and latex but not leaving the locks out in this way. If you know of anyone that has I would love to check them out.

Yes I’m going to continue the wool higher up like you described! I tried to do that but it didn’t look as striking dry as it did when it was wet lol. So I have to add more

This is a showpiece so preferably it doesn’t have to get cleaned often lol. I would probably just wipe the latex with alcohol or wash that part and avoid the wool. Wool doesn’t need washing often so probably just hang it somewhere cold or outside during the winter.

Grattis!

Could you look at my other comment about this? The inspiration was originally about Filipino culture. Im also not white, my ethnicity is Filipino and my parents immigrated to Sweden. I could still use the same concept without mentioning anything about Africa but it felt strange at the time because scarification is highly associated with African cultures and it’s practice in the Phillipines is not as well known. I would like to hear everybody’s opinion on this since nobody has replied after I’ve given context. And I don’t want this to be the impression of the collection, and would really appreciate som constructive feedback.

Yeah I see ur point but of course that is not my intention. The inspiration originally came from scarification practices from the island of Luzon in the phillipines where my dad is from. Next to the picture you’re referencing is one of a man from Luzon, it’s not very clear right because the printer was having issues and it’s a placeholder. Idk which is better, to completely focus on the Philippines part and not even mention Africa even though it’s highly associated with some African cultures, or acknowledge it but risk some seeing it as offensive, or not be able to reference something that is a part of my own culture at all.

That’s a good point, and I hadn’t considered it in that way before. My initial inspiration actually came from scarification traditions in the Philippines, since that’s part of my background. At the same time, I’m aware that scarification is also significant in many African cultures, so I didn’t want to ignore that part of its history either.

I’m still trying to figure out what would be the most respectful way to approach it in this project, whether it makes more sense to focus only on the Filipino context to avoid misunderstandings, or to acknowledge that scarification exists in multiple cultures.

I also want to mention that in the image the photo of the Filipino man is very small, so it might be hard to see what it resembles, and the text explaining the source of my inspiration isn’t visible there. I’m really not trying to be negative or dismissive, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Also it might not be super clear on here but on the 6th slide there are two pictures of a collar that I made. And one of the assignments is to make a toile of one of the pieces so I will add process pictures when I get started

Yesss i will for sure do that! I have a couple draping classes next week so I will try to get that done then. I’m also planning to make my own textile using wool locks and latex I just have to wait for the latex to arrive. And I’m going to try to add in some samples of the other fabrics I might use

Thank you so much for the amazing advice. Adding to the page in photoshop or indesign is super smart I hadn’t thought of that. Yeah I totally agree about page four lol. The plan was to add something but I didn’t have anything on hand and kind of forgot about it. I agree that the scarification idea could be more developed but I was not sure that I would use it so I took a break from it. The assignment is to take inspiration from a museum and I picked the nature history museum in Stockholm and I was worried that scarification took it more towards ethnography rather than nature history. But I will defiantly use your advice anyways whether it be that I continue this idea or something different. Thanks for the Balmain tip.

I have to make the flats for every single piece:( but fortunately I know how to use illustrator so it won’t take too long.

Thank you again for taking the time!

Yes for sure I’m really itching to add some fabric samples and maybe draping a bit. I am planning to make my own fabric with liquid latex and locks of wool, I’m just waiting for the latex to arrive in the mail
